Emmanuel Frimpong’s loan spell at Wolves has come to an abrupt end and has returned to Arsenal after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament which will see him sidelined for up to nine months.

The 20-year-old midfield suffered the injury to his right knee during Wolves’ 2-1 victory over QPR on Saturday.

The on-loan Arsenal youngster managed just 24 minutes of play at Loftus Road and, after a scan, was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

Frimpong, who picked up the same injury only to his left knee two years ago, managed to make five appearances for Mick McCarthy’s side.

The news of his injury was later posted up on the official Wolves website, it read:

‘Emmanuel is expected to be out for a number of months and will therefore miss the remainder of this season.

‘Everyone at Wolves would like to thank the midfielder for his efforts whilst at the club and join Arsenal in wishing him a swift recovery.’

The Ghanaian later confirmed the bad news via his Twitter account and will be facing a race against the clock to be fit for the 2012/13 season:

‘Bad News is that I’m out for 6-9months with my Knee Gd News is that I will therefore have all the time in my hands to be doin #frimmyfacts.’

He went on to thank the Wolves faithful for their support and said he hopes that the club can survive the drop this season:

‘I wanna thank all the wolves fans for their support since I’ve been here and really Hope wolves stay up this season.

‘I also wanna ask you to pray for my cruciate injury as I will be taking all the punishment it deserves as he or she have been very naughty:)’
