Arsenal’s record signing Andrey Arshavin sealed a last minute loan deal to former club Zenit on Friday night.

Reports suggest that the Russian club will pay the Gunners a £1 million loan fee as well as Arshavin’s wages in full until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old, who joined Arsenal from Zenit in 2009 for approximately £15 million, said on his Twitter account ‘It’s done’.

The Russian international started his Arsenal career off in great fashion but has since fallen from grace and out-of-favour at The Emirates, starting just 13 games in the 27 appearances he has made for the Gunners this season, scoring 2 goals along the way.

The diminutive forward told Russian publication Sport-Express:

‘Friday was a very difficult day, nothing was decided until the very last minute.

‘But I hope from now on everything is going to be fine. I want to play and will do all I can to help Zenit win the Russian title.’

Arshavin will wear the number 29 shirt for Zenit, and the move will do both the player and Arsenal a world of good. Andrey will supposedly get more game time and regular first-team football ahead of the Euro 2012 and Arsenal have got him off their wage bill.

Personally, I don’t see why we sanctioned this move; it just doesn’t make sense to me.
