About two days ago it was reported that Tomas Rosicky’s agent, Pavel Paska, would be holding talks with Arsene Wenger over the Czech midfielder’s future at Arsenal.

Despite the 31-year-old growing increasingly frustrated at the lack of first-team opportunities and seemingly dropping down the midfield pecking order at the Emirates, Paska has recently revealed that the experienced playmaker will not be leaving Arsenal, not at least until the summer when Rosicky’s current deal with the Gunners expires, and also indicated that a ‘final decision’ on the matter will be made in mid-February.

Paska told Czech news agency CTK:

‘It was a good discussion, like it always is with Mr Wenger. We have outlined our ideas and Arsenal their ideas. We have exchanged some pieces of information and agreed on making the final decision on 15th February.’

Rosicky’s representative went on to say:

‘Everything is wide open. Naturally, I have talked with Tomas and know his wishes, but until the next talks with Arsenal we will not reveal our cards.

‘I would not like to speculate (on Rosicky’s future) but people at Arsenal have hinted that they would be interested in Tomas carrying on there. But we will have to wait and see till the middle of February how things unfold.’

To be honest, for experience and technique alone, I for one hope Tomas does clinch a new short-term deal at Arsenal. He may not be given the games and playing time that he would like, but he must understand that at this stage of his career he will be more of an impact player rather than a starter.

Let’s see what decision is made in mid-Feb.
