Would Arsenal fans welcome back their former talisman?

Unlike certain other Arsenal players, it’s fair to say that Cesc Fabregas left the club with his dignity intact. Since that moment he has maintained a degree of respect and class towards his ex-club that is almost unprecedented when it comes to modern day footballers. Such is his love for the club that Fabregas recently told Sky Sports News:

‘If I have to leave Barcelona, I will go back to Arsenal – I would like to.’

The Cesc Fabregas transfer saga ran on for so long that Arsenal fans were almost glad to see hin go when the moment came. They had been waiting for the news that Fabregas was now a Barcelona player for three summers and when the news hit, it came as something of a relief. Cesc himself seems to have had a different reaction:

‘I am not embarrassed to say that the day I left I could only say ‘Thank you very much’, I couldn’t say more. I’m not embarrassed to say that I nearly cried. Arsene Wenger, I have never met someone that loyal. He is one of the best, I really believe that.’

Like Thierry Henry, it’s clear that Cesc genuinely loved his time at Arsenal and that moving on was a hard thing to do. But whilst Thierry Henry’s career fizzled out, Fabregas’ career has hit new heights and now he’s finally receiving the silverware that his performances deserve.

For that reason, Barcelona wont be willing to let go of their midfield maestro any time soon. Indeed, who would bet against Cesc being a Barcelona player for the next 10 years?

But would Arsenal fans take Cesc back if circumstances permitted? If his second spell at his boyhood club were to come to an end, would Arsenal fans endorse a second spell with them?

One thing’s clear, Cesc is not a Samir Nasri or a Mathieu Flamini. Both of those players permanently blotted their copybooks when they made their respective moves to Manchester City and AC Milan. They lost the respect of the fans and pundits alike and wouldn’t be welcome back at the club.

Cesc Fabregas on the other hand is an entirely different kettle of fish. His copybook remains in pristine condition and Arsenal fans would be only too glad to have a player of his quality and stature back at the club. It’s just unfortunate that such a move will, in all likelihood, never happen.

What’s your take? Would you like to see Cesc Fabregas back at the club?

I would welcome a week to pas without him saying anything arsenal related to be honest.

He left us in a poor position and instead of getting on with it we have to keep hearing him justify his reasons for leaving and then express his love for the club all over again.

We get it cesc, now go and enjoy wining in spain and just stop going on about arsenal

The lad learned almost everything at Arsenal, he came at 16, left at 24, yes he spent his first years at Barca, but that’s not the same, from 11, 12 to 16 at barca, he wasn’t in their 1st team, his best memories are at Arsenal, i’d welcome him with open arms, he’s a true Gooner, i’m sure he misses the premier league, just like Mourinho, in terms of passion it’s unique!
