Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has admitted that he has been in contact with Lukas Podolski over a potential move to the Emirates.
The pair are team mates in the German national side and with Arsenal rumoured to be interested in signing the 26-year-old, Mertesacker could be a key in persuading Podolski to leave Cologne for north London.
Mertesacker said:
‘Of course I’ve been on the phone to him. He is a powerful, great player, especially for the national team.
‘He has scored a lot of goals, is a good striker with a very good finish. His left foot is unbelievable and I am a fan of him.’
Mertesacker also gave his backing to the possible re-signing of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.
