Should Arsenal attempt to sign the ‘new Thierry Henry’?

It’s been reported that Arsenal are looking to sign long-term target Loic Remy from Marseille.

Remy joined the French club back in 2010 for a fee thought to be in the region of £12 million on a five-year deal so Arsenal may find it hard to prise him away from Marseille.

With it looking increasingly likely that Marouane Chamakh is heading out of Arsenal in January, after yet another disappointing performance against Man City on Tuesday night, Arsene Wenger knows he needs to obtain another striker who is going to be able to fill in if Robin Van Persie is rested or picks up an injury.

The 24-year-old has scored 8 goals for Marseille so far this season in 17 matches in all competitions and looks on course to to beat his record last season of 18 goals in 46 matches.

In my view, I don’t think this player is going to be the ‘new Thierry Henry’, which he has been dubbed in France, because those are huge boots to fill, and if that’s what we’re looking for then I think although the player is a good quality player and would be a suitable replacement for Chamakh, I don’t see him being good enough to replace an injured RVP.

With the likes of Moussa Sow contemplating a move to Arsenal, Wenger must choose wisely from a list of players he has in mind to help out Robin, including Remy. However, i think there are better options out there than the France international.

HAVE TO AGREE. REMY WILL NEVER FILL HENRY’S BOOTS. WENGER SHOULD GO FOR POLDOLSKI INSTEAD, PROVEN GIFTED STRIKER WITH EXPERIENCE TO BACK UP RVP!!!

Why not settle for the real Henry? As a backup for Van Persie for as long as Red Bulls would allow him out on loan – Just saying!

I get so irritated by media or bloggers trying to find a “new-somebody”. There is only one Thiery Henry, 1 Viera, 1 Zedan, 1 Ronaldo. Nobody can be a new someone else. Every Thiery himself can never be his old self. Remy is good. But there is not Thiery Henry in him what so ever. He never tries to be him and is building his own profile, which if turns out to be less than Henry’s so be it. Is he good enough for Arsenal? Of course he is. Is he the best we could get? There are a lot more players better than him. Will they do well at Arsenal? Noone knows because bigger people have transferred clubs at their peak and flopped. Some have excelled. I am just afraid that the French league is not turning out to be a good. Feeder for Arsenal. Chamak, Squilaci have flopped. The jump is too steep. I am sure we have enough success stories as well but we need balance at the moment.
