Arsenal favourite still thinks defence needs tweaking

Much has already been said about Arsenal’s defence this season and with the amount of injuries that we’ve picked up already, is there any wonder? This time it is the turn or former Arsenal hero Paul Merson who has decided to have a dig at our defence, telling everyone exactly how he feels about the Gunners back-line:

‘The goal Arsenal conceded against Villa was absolutely atrocious.

‘If a little kid had made Per Mertesacker’s mistake you’d be shocked but for an international player to do it was terrible.’

Let’s not forget that it was Thomas Vermaelen’s initial mistake that actually led to the goal, but Merson has decided to avoid this and pile more pressure on Per Mertesacker which I don’t agree with at all. Yes Mertesacker has made a few mistakes for us this season, which have led to some goals, but the German is still adapting to the Premier League and his new team-mates.

Arsene Wenger does needs to get his players to cut out the sloppy mistakes that are leading to goals and extra pressure on the defence. I think the only player who had a decent pass percentage that game was once again Mikel Arteta, who completed 23 out of 25 passes and is still my favourite signing of the summer.

Arsenal have been granted an extra day off over Christmas because of the proposed tube strikes. Their game against Wolves has now been moved from Boxing day to the 27th of December. However, Merson seems a lot more nervous about the encounter than I do.

in an interview with Sky Sports. Merson said:

‘Wolves will test Arsenal because they do have a real go and normally raise their game against the big boys. They were unlucky to only draw with Norwich on Tuesday but I can’t see them getting anything at the Emirates. I like Steven Fletcher, though, and I think he can help Wolves get a goal.’

In my view it is time for Robin van Persie to grab the goals he needs to make him the top ever scorer in a calendar year, and Wolves could be the perfect game for him to do this, so let’s have a great end to the year with Arsenal and let’s see RVP break the record.

All that’s left for me to say is Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone reading. Stay Safe and have a brilliant time over the festive period.

I think it is in bad taste when knowledgeable people delibrately leave out the facts in order to crucify someone they probably don’t like. As much as it could be said that Per could have done better, the real blame for that goal should be solely placed on the footsteps of TV5. That said, we are glad they salvaged the three points to keep up with the top 4. Merry christmas and a happy new year to all Gunners.

Agree with SUNNY, TV5 played Mert into trouble who was entitled to expect better from his Verm. Albrighton had a head start on Mert who was largely blameless in my opinion. Merson yet again shows himself up as a terrible pundit and reader of the game. I wish he would shut up and stop showing himself up as an idiot.

MERSON WAS A DRUNK AND AVERAGE PLAYER. THE ARSENAL DEFENCE IS GOOD. PER WILL ONLY GET BETTER AND WILL SHOW HIS WORTH IN THE SECOND SEASON. AFTER ALL, HE IS GERMAN!
