What does the future hold for this forgotten Gunner?

In May 2006 Abou Diaby fractured his right ankle against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, an injury which jeopardised his Arsenal career by keeping him out of action for up to eight months.

Since then, the France international has never been far from the treatment table.

Astonishingly enough, the 25-year-old has suffered up to 27 different injuries over the past four and a half years, most of which have stemmed from the original brutal challenge from Dan Smith, who is now retired, at the Stadium of Light all those years back.

Diaby recently underwent surgery on his ankle in the summer, an operation which went smoothly. However, the operation has set him back and will reportedly be out of action until the end of November according to Arsene Wenger, after the midfielder suffered two relapses to his left calf.

But with Arsenal targeting Yann M’ Vila and Esteban Granero in the January transfer window, what does the future hold for Diaby?

Only time will tell, but early indications suggest it doesn’t look bright for the French midfielder.

don’t need him. He gives away the ball too much, dribbles into nowhere, can’t pass better than anyone and can barely shoot. What’s the point of being so tall if you get bullied by others players smaler than you?

He needs to move on, we’re doing just fine without him. Why fix what ain’t broke? He’s average at best and has never shown the ability to replicate Vieira or even Edu for that matter.

Diaby is a great player. Watch him for France. With our new mid-field, he can make runs knowing he’s got cover from Jack, Song Arteta. He also has support from Theo, Gervinho, the Ox and Ryu to support his runs. Our old shape in the middle with quarter-back Fabs – didn’t suit him. Like I said, watch him for France. He can’t be pressed coz he’ll turn and leave you for dead, which is real handy in the right games. Why do you think we’ve still got him? Diaby ain’t average you fool.

Its quite unfortunate for Diaby, even before his injuries he didnt show any sign of improvement. If arsenal can sign either of M’villa or estabian by january Diaby shud be release to move on.

would love to see him on a long run of games as a fully fit to realy judge him,i just love when he wins his dribbles though, spectacular

Spot on Wc & Joe he is & has always been totally overrated. Never been good enough to wear the shirt & I for one will be happy for him never to wear it again. Id prefer to see us buy a decent playmaker such as Gotze, I know he is young but that boy could tear any premiership defence to pieces. Then get Jagielka to cover both holding midfield & defensive roles.
