Following Arsenal’s comfortable 3-0 win over West Brom yesterday at the Emirates, Arsene Wenger insisted that he will continue to rotate his centre-backs, claiming he doesn’t have a first-choice defensive pairing in mind.
Wenger currently has four central defenders to choose from – Thomas Vermaelen, Laurent Koscielny, Per Mertesacker and Johan Djourou – and has rotated them to great effect so far this season as they continue to climb the Premier League table.
However, despite impressive performances from both Vermaelen and Koscielny at the Emirates yesterday, Wenger has rejected the idea that they will be shown any favour and will give his other centre-backs a chance to shine during the course of the season.
Speaking after the game yesterday, the Frenchman said:
‘I have a few first-choice pairings and Mertesacker is part of it as well.’
‘I like Mertesacker, Djourou and of course the two who played today so we will see. They are all good.’

Just leave Squillaci out of the equation, please
Why should the defensive pairing become a conundrum? We have four competent centre backs who Wenger (in his own words) can rotate according to the oppostion and the fitness level.
Should he choose to go for Vertongen it will give Arsenal the best back line defence in years.
We have enough midfielders and more in the pipeline we just need to support van Persie.
