Arsenal starlet issues quit threat

Francis Coquelin is seriously contemplating his future at Arsenal after being left annoyed with the lack of first-team opportunities at The Emirates.

The 20-year-old Frenchman has started just 2 Premier League games, the 8-2 mauling at Old Trafford and the 2-1 to Spurs at White Hart lane, despite an impressive season-long loan with Ligue 1 side Lorient – where he made 24 league appearances, this before rarely appearing for The Gunners after joining them in 2008 from Stade Lavallois.

The France Under-21 international has made 5 appearances in total for Arsene Wenger’s side so far this season and has recently admitted that his lack of first-team action is forcing him to consider his future, with a January move away from The Emirates firmly fixed in his mind.

The young Gunner recently told France Football:

‘I thought I had a shot to play so I decided to stay at Arsenal. I played a lot at first, even big games, but when players came back from injury I just disappeared.

‘It is often said that when you are young you have time but I played a whole season at Lorient and now I’m virtually not playing at all. It’s annoying. Given my playing time for sure the idea of a departure this winter is in my head.’

If indeed the young Frenchman is not going to get games at Arsenal, which personally I don’t think he will due to our over congested midfield, then Wenger should look to keep him happy by loaning him out in January just so he can gain more experience and hopefully come back a better player and compete for a place in the starting line-up.

However, Coquelin has not made it clear whether he wants to leave on a temporary or permanent basis this January. I believe it is the latter of the two, but only time will tell if my prediction is accurate. One thing is for sure, not a lot of Arsenal fans will want to see him leave the Emirates, as he has the potential to become a very good player for the North London club.

  • I would hope a 20 year old could show a little more fight & ambition than this. Who does he suggest we drop to make way for him? That said a few more sub appearances wouldn’t hurt him, but if he’s not strong enough to stay, then go.

I’m with you on this one bob. I think he is a tidy midfielder but I can’t see him getting in front of Song, Arteta, Wilshere or Ramsey, so either he sticks it out and sees what develops or looks for a move away

Another Nasri, sell him. The attitude required is to want to play for Arsenal, not to demand that you play every game even though you haven’t proven anything. Oxo stated this week that he is pleased with what he is learning and will wait until the boss thinks he’s ready and that is the only type of player that we want at Arsenal. Arsene you made the mistake of hanging on to players that brought down the morale of the club, we felt like we had got rid of them all but now this lad is talking above his rank so let him go.

I say offer him and diaby to rennes in a straight swap for Mvila.

whilst i really like the kid more than frimpong and song, he is in no position to make demands just yet. Hopefully this has been taken out of context and like Frimpong he is just keen to get some matches to make the international breakthrough. Lets be honest, with the state of the French team and even Ghana, both players could be playing at their countries next major tournaments if they were playing regular.

stupid coquelin!!!! go have a look at the carling cup fixtures like everyone else your age! we’ve only had two CC games, whats he’s complaining about. do u really expect to be given preference over song, maybe wenger would play him for a smaller BPL game but ARSENAL FC need to focus on climbing the table thats why he hasnt risked any youngsters when he could avoid it. and couquelin being an arsenal player should know this better than anyone. and african cup of nations is coming up, song is gonna go, doesnt couqelin have any awareness of what makes a whole season!!!! this is very premature from coquelin. i rate him highly, definately a star for arsenal but come on, stop being a diva
