It appears that the media has once again made a mountain out of a molehill, as far as an Arsenal rumour is concerned anyway.
It was reported in a few papers and sites recently that Wojciech Szczesny wanted to be captain of Arsenal and believes he deserved the armband over current skipper Robin van Persie. However, the Polish international used his Twitter account to set the record straight:
‘I got annoyed with a few things about myself in the media recently so I’m going to set the record straight, I never said I deserve the Arsenal armband. I said that I would love to one day take the responsibility of being an Arsenal skipper. RVP [Robin van Persie] is doing a great job as a skipper and he fully deserves the armband.’
If this wasn’t bad enough, it was also reported that his withdrawal from the polish side was not genuine. However, Shezza was quick to dismiss these reports as well:
‘I am injured and had to be pulled out of Polish national team. I hope to recover as soon as possible.’
However, one of the other rumours flying about that did make the 21-year-old Pole laugh though was his reported link to Barcelona:
‘Please continue the ‘Szczesny to Barcelona’ rumours. Makes me laugh every time I read it!’
I’m fairly sure that the media are just jumping on the ‘anti-Arsenal’ bandwagon at the moment and believe they are publishing stories that are evidently untrue.
I would prefer our players to refuse to give interviews to papers at the moment, purely because they are just twisting things to make us look bad.
The press are becoming more and more stupid and like to publish what they like, even if it is true or not. This is one of the reasons why I no longer buy a paper anymore.
I’m just glad that Szczesny cleared everything up and evidently stuck it to those buffoons who reported such nonsense in the first place.
