It is widely reported that Robin van Persie is stalling on signing a new deal with the Gunners because he is waiting to see what moves the club will make in the January transfer window.

With his captain left with just 2 years left to run on his current contract, Arsene Wenger will be eager to avoid the situation that he found himself in with Samir Nasri, which saw the French midfielder jump ship to Manchester City during the summer transfer window.

Arsenal fans will be keen to see RVP sign a new long-term deal with the club and many will be hoping to see the Gunners bring in some big name players when January comes about.

With Wenger yesterday celebrating 15 years in charge of the north London club, the financial figures at Arsenal are improving all the time with the club announcing a pre-tax profit of £15 million with the net debt having now fallen to £97 million, which fell from £297 million in 2009.

It is thought that Wenger has about £50 million available to him when the transfer window opens.

Tim Payton from the Arsenal supporters trust said:

‘All of Arsenal’s profit comes from its fans. We want to see this money invested in our key players like Thomas Vermaelen and Robin van Persie and bringing in world-class stars. It’s our cash.’

Arsenal are expected to go back into the market for Gary Cahill in January, as his contract will be a lot closer to expiring at Bolton. However, I would imagine that RVP will expect some more big name signings to come into the team. In my opinion, we still need to get another midfielder and another defender (which could be Cahill). Assuming we do this and spend the money this winter, I think/hope that this will be enough to convince Van Persie to stay at the club.

There is no doubt in my mind that the news of our captain stalling on a new deal would have alerted many top clubs around Europe, and also believe that if this issue is not resolved swiftly, then it could mean yet another uncertain summer for Arsenal fans.

REPORTED BY WHO? …. reported by who?

By Van Persie. He spoke after the Bolton game saying he has got 2 years on his contract and at the moment he is happy with his contract.

“I still have almost two years left here, so for the moment that’s fine. But I don’t know, we will have to look.

“I’m happy with my contract, I’m good. That’s how it is, I can’t say much more. I can’t look into the future.”
