Due to a poor start to the new Premier League campaign, several angry Arsenal fans have called for the removal of Arsene Wenger, with a section of them planning a visible protest by revealing a ‘Wenger Out’ banner during our home game against Sunderland this Sunday.

However, former Arsenal star and current assistant manager at Feyenoord Giovanni van Bronckhorst believes that removing the Frenchman would be a massive mistake:

‘Arsenal Football Club IS Arsene Wenger. Wenger is an institution. Everything would tumble over if he would leave now. His philosophy is an example to millions.’

I personally do not want Wenger to leave the club. I still believe he is the man for the job. I think the board have a lot to answer for this year and with them saying that we will not have the funds to spend big in January just goes to show that we desperately need rid of the old codgers that currently sit on the board. Arsenal have the capability to go out and sign players, but the board are only interest in finances and money, not the club itself.

If Wenger was to leave the club, then you can most definitely forget about qualifying for the Champions League, as he has been the mastermind behind this for the past 14 years!

Who would replace him? I for one cannot see Wenger walking out as he has never in his career done this, so it would mean that the Arsenal board would have to sack him, a move I cannot see them doing either.

Should Wenger be put forward for the England manager role? This is the only way that I could see the board considering letting him go and Wenger actually abandoning ship. However, I honestly believe it is not something that will happen.

Van Bronckhorst went on to comment about his former club and how times have changed since his departure:

‘For 15 years it was very simple for players. If Arsenal came knocking on the door, you’d rush to sign for them. But that’s not the case any more.’

Sad but true.

We are currently struggling to obtain the big-name signings, and part of this problem was because we lost Cesc Fabregas, and the other reason for us not acquiring top talent is once again down to the board’s frugalness.

To conclude, I think Van Bronckhorst is right. Getting rid of Wenger would be a stupid move for the club in general, as we would be losing a whole lot more than we gain in the long run.
