Arsene Wenger has hit back at those speculating over his Arsenal future, claiming he wants to remain in charge of the Emirates outfit for another 14 years.

It hasn’t been a great start to the Gunners campaign this season, having only picked up 4 points in their first 5 Premier League games, and with a six year trophy drought looming over Wenger’s head many fans have questioned the Frenchman’s position at the north London club.

However, Wenger claims that the increasing speculation over his future does not bother him, and with Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis recently declaring that the Frenchman’s position as manager is safe, Wenger remains focused on his job and intends to lead the club to another top four finish this season.

Speaking after the Gunners 3-1 Carling Cup victory over Shrewsbury at the Emirates last night, he said:

‘I am focussed on doing well for this club. I’m not bothered by all this speculation.’

‘I can understand that people are unhappy and criticise me but you know as well as I know that people are quick to go overboard. I accept critics. You cannot complain when you lose a game that you are criticised.’

He finished off by saying:

‘My record is I have managed 14 years at this club and kept them 14 years in the Champions League and I wish that it lasts in the next 14 years.’
