The most ridiculous Arsenal rumour yet?

Now I have read a lot of crazy, bewildering and, quite frankly, stupid winter transfer rumours involving Arsenal and we’re only in late September! But I think this one you are about to read is probably the most ridiculous of them all.

According to caughtoffside.com, Arsenal are pondering a £1 million January move for Manchester United striker Michael Owen to bolster their attacking force – really?

The 31-year-old Englishman is on a one-year rolling contract at Old Trafford and is struggling to attain regular first-team opportunities at the Manchester club.

Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that he wants to give Owen more playing time this season, but the Scotsman has Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck, Javier Hernandez and Dimitar Berbatov to think about, that and they all appear to be in front of the England international in the striking pecking order.

It is believed that Arsene Wenger would offer Owen an 18 month deal when the winter window opens, as well as the chance to gain more regular first-team football.

Many believe, (including myself), that should Robin van Persie pick up an injury then we would be in trouble upfront, as we do not have suitable cover for the Dutch striker.

We only have Marouane Chamakh and Park Chu-Young to call on, with the former being off form and unimpressive, whilst the latter needs time to adjust to the English game.

A lot of Arsenal fans believe that Theo Walcott could do a job upfront – if RVP were to sustain a knock – but let’s face it, Theo will not be deployed in this position this season.

Owen’s fitness is far from great, but Wenger is willing to take a gamble on the Red Devils forward because he is available on the cheap and can offer vital experience to the Arsenal squad.

Make what you will of this Gooners – would love to know what you lot think of this rumour

Stupid, meaningless. I don’t even want to think of it.

There is absolutely nothing ridiculous about Wenger signing Owen, at least not if you consider the fact he took Silvester off them some years back. I’m not gonna get shitfaced about this either cos get to think of it Owen on his day is still one of the most lethal strikers has ever known. Moreover, just about anything can improve this bizzarely average Arsenal team. I watched him send Blackpool to relegation last year and he also played Carling cup for them and scored. I would have been all grouchy if we were buying him to replace Van Persie. But having Owen as a back up – thats some advantage. He will win us points, I can guarantee that. And for your information, the most ridiculous Arsenal transfers always go through. Look no farther than Silvestre.

Robin Van Persie would mean a lack of an established proven goal scorer…but we are hardly lacking in attackers, Gervinho, Arshavin, Walcott (when fit), Park, Chamackh, Alex OC and Miyachi all fall within that category. I would personally like to see Lansbury pulled back (if possible) as him and Alex OC seem to have a good thing going and Lansbury looks good, admittedly however, he’ll benefit more from his time at West Ham than forced into an Arsenal first team due to injury.
