Just when we thought we’d seen the last of him!

Just when we thought we saw the last of him, it now looks likely that we could see Sebastien ‘The Squid’ Squillaci feature against Spurs this Sunday.

The 31-year-old, who many thought would’ve been offloaded this summer, has missed the start of the season with a calf injury, but is expected to resume training this week.

Although this news may come as a boost to Arsene Wenger, who is without Thomas Vermaelen for a month and Laurent Koscielny, who picked up a slight knock against Bolton last Saturday, many fans will be dreading the return of Squillaci.

One of Johan Djourou or Alex Song are likely to partner Per Mertesacker in central defence tonight when the Gunners host Olympiakos, but Wenger is hopefully that he will have more options (in the form of Squillaci) this weekend when they travel to White Hart Lane:

‘Squillaci is not completely fit, he should be back in the group on Friday or Saturday.’

Hopefully Squillaci isn’t ready in time.

maan we need jack back badly,

surely wenger would either stick with miquel, but probs not against tottenham or play song as center back, due to coquelin and frimpong playign well recently. Playing squillaci in a derby would be silly

  • Alex says:

calf injury my ass. Let Miquel play, and hopefully Koscielny or Djourou will be fit in time for the weekend. ANYONE is a better option than squillaci.

What sort of remark is that?
Here we have a member of Arsene Wenger’s first team squad who, if selected, will be expected to do his best for the Club. In that capacity he is entitled to 100% backing from all who follow Arsenal, NOT snide remarks from a commentator who should know the difference between fair comment and crude remarks.
We’ve already seen what happens when so-called supporters turn on a player and hound him out of the Club. The treatment of Denilson was an absolute disgrace.
Regardless of whether Squillaci is selected tonight OR on Sunday, true fans will give him and his colleagues full support. Think on that you should do the same.

Whilst not a fan of the squid, that is one of the most welcome ‘true supporter’ comments I’ve read in ages. Well done and c’mon gunners!

I was agreeing with the fact Squillaci shouldn’t play then I read nicky’s comment which brought me back to my senses! The PASSION for Arsenal run’s bright and STRONG in my heart again. Thanks nicky.

It doesn’t matter if we’re writing on here wishing he didn’t play its not as if he’s going to read it. It’s about what’s right for the club and that is for Djourou, Squillachi and Kosielney to preferably not play in defence for us – they’re not good enough. You can sit on your high horse all day and complain about us being cynical about certain players but we are well within our rights. If the class is obviously not there and we end up putting in a poor performance against spurs this will create unrest upon the fans, the manager and reduce the likelihood of luring potential targets to us in January which could ruin yet another season.

    @Jordan,
So our 3 defenders aren’t good enough. Poor old Wenger has made more mistakes and should have checked with you before these signings.
My advice is to leave the choice of players to those who understand the professional game.
All you (and we) have to do is support the team all the time, for better or for worse. It’s not difficult really.

`Arry will be happy to hear this.
