The man earmarked by Arsene Wenger to succeed him at Arsenal, Dragan Stojkovic, believes the north London club need to acquire a ‘real striker’.

Stojkovic played under Wenger in the mid 90’s at Nagoya Grampus and has since maintained a healthy relationship with the Frenchman.

In 2008, Stojkovic, who is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of Yugoslavian and Serbian football, took charge of Grampus and is in regular contact with Wenger.

Earlier this year, Wenger stated:

‘I would love Stojkovic to be my successor [at Arsenal], there are a hundred reasons for that. Our ideas are the same and we both strive for perfect football. I knew he was going to have teams playing attacking football with many passes.’

The 46-year-old Serbian has since revealed that he previously told his former boss that he needed to sort out Arsenal’s goalkeeping issues. With these issues now sorted – with Szczesny establishing himself as Arsenal’s no.1 – Stojkovic now thinks an addition of a ‘real striker’ should be next on Wenger’s agenda.

Stojkovic told The Blizzard:

‘He also needs a real striker, who is expensive of course. [Robin] Van Persie is not a real striker, [Andrey] Arshavin is not a real striker.’

‘[Emmanuel] Adebayor was a real striker but they decided to sell him for a lot of money. Arsenal get a lot of benefits from his coaching from a financial point of view.’

I agree with the Serbian (not about the Adebayor comment though).

We don’t really have a pure striker amongst our ranks and those on the bench aren’t really effective enough, so the addition of one top quality forward this January would be wise.

i like the comment about he likes to play attacking football with MANY passes…..too many passes is NOT clever!.
Hopefully wenger is out of arsenal soon and maybe this guy will do a better job. We do need a striker that can score 25 goals a season and if RVP stays fit he will score close to that amount as well. We need a really good centre back as well…not a panic buy or a cheap french league player. If wenger was serious then we would have had cahill playing for us now and the panic buys wouldnt have happened either.

AW took a gud decision by playing an attacking football but he shud also realise dat gud football without a trophy is meaningless, he shud rather take the right step and doing dat at the right time. A striker who can score goals minimum of 25goals a season.

I pray that when Wenger leaves or goes upstairs onto the Board (or gets sacked ??) we do not replace him with a disciple who will insist upon the same inflexible, no tactics, super technical, attack only style of football.

Karim Benzema of course is the man i would like to see in Arsenal,he can be a real striker.

He sounds like meeting the interest of the fans. Meanwhile let be with wenger as we wait for him to come.

yeh Karim Benzema is a must i think, i hear benzema is wengers number 1 target in january, if this is the case then GREAT, we should also get Edin Hazard, Yan M’vila and Jan Vertonghen, we may miss out on gary cahill due to the interest barcelona have showed for him, so i think Jan Vertonghen would be better to go for, he would cost arsenal much less than cahill and hes a very good defender, Vertonghen is left footed and 6ft2 tall, and i think hes only 24yrs old, hes quicker than vermaelen and technically better, this would be a good option.
