A US high school freshman by the name of Gedion Zelalem is highly likely to join Arsenal’s youth academy within the next two years.

Zelalem, a student at Walter Johnson High in Bethesda, Maryland, has already trained with other potential Arsenal youngsters and, according to his father, the family are planning to move to London in January 2013 when Gedion turns 16.

The teenager is of Ethiopian descent and is a German citizen which means he will not have to gain a European or UK work permit, which ultimately bolds well for the Gunners, who have had trouble with these technicalities in the past.

Gedion’s father, Woldyes, has confirmed that his son trained in Colney in London with Arsenal and will return when he turns 16.

Mr. Zelalem told the Washington Post:

‘My philosophy was to start with a smaller team and take it step by step.’

‘Arsenal felt like family, so we thought, ‘Why not?’

‘Gedion said to me, ‘Papa, I want to go to Arsenal.’

‘For him to become a professional at Arsenal, it would be a gift.’

The youngster was very exited by the future opportunity of playing for Arsenal and says that he is going to make the most of it when the time comes.

‘It’s a dream for me.’

‘I’ve always wanted it. I’ve gotten the opportunity, and I’m going to take it.’
