A US high school freshman by the name of Gedion Zelalem is highly likely to join Arsenal’s youth academy within the next two years.

Zelalem, a student at Walter Johnson High in Bethesda, Maryland, has already trained with other potential Arsenal youngsters and, according to his father, the family are planning to move to London in January 2013 when Gedion turns 16.

The teenager is of Ethiopian descent and is a German citizen which means he will not have to gain a European or UK work permit, which ultimately bolds well for the Gunners, who have had trouble with these technicalities in the past.

Gedion’s father, Woldyes, has confirmed that his son trained in Colney in London with Arsenal and will return when he turns 16.

Mr. Zelalem told the Washington Post:

‘My philosophy was to start with a smaller team and take it step by step.’

‘Arsenal felt like family, so we thought, ‘Why not?’

‘Gedion said to me, ‘Papa, I want to go to Arsenal.’

‘For him to become a professional at Arsenal, it would be a gift.’

The youngster was very exited by the future opportunity of playing for Arsenal and says that he is going to make the most of it when the time comes.

‘It’s a dream for me.’

‘I’ve always wanted it. I’ve gotten the opportunity, and I’m going to take it.’

    @gimmeg6
You’ve misunderstood the quote. His father is saying they originally thought the boy should go to a smaller club BUT when Arsenal came along and showed interest they changed their view and decided to jump at the opportunity.
He wasn’t insinuating or implying Arsenal are a small club. Quite the contrary. It seems they were surprised and very happy with Arsenal’s interest.

good news for all ethiopians!I am from ethiopia and 90% of the population supports the gunners followed by Man utd (7%) and Chelsea(3%). I got the data from a local newspaper while I was in ethiopia some years back. seeing a gooner from Ethiopia will be a massive news for all Ethiopian gunners. Well done kiddo and I hope you will make it to the top.

I am from Ethiopia too and offcourse fan of arsenal,we call it arse here.but i dont think the 90% is no longer valid,in my guess may be 60% at the momrnt due to the lack of trophies for the last 6 years.Always a Gooner

    • Jeo says:

So if man u win more trophies they support them, and if arsenal do they support them, great fans they are!!

      • ben says:

well here is the thing United & Arsenal are the biggest supported teams in ET. i think what he is trying to say is the kids will be supporting either United Shity or chelshit instead of the once mighty gooners since they r not competing for anything lately. but still United Vs Arse is the biggest game in ET, so Big that when these two meat a fight will surely break in the Pubs. THERE IS ONLY ONE UNITED!!! good luck for the kid, hope he will made us proud when the day comes

  • Fikir says:
