Jack Wilshere believes Arsenal must venture into the transfer market if they are to mount a serious Premier League title challenge this season, according to several reports.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who bagged 2 goals and 9 assist in 51 appearances for The Gunners last season, believes Arsene Wenger must add some new faces to the current squad if the club are to end their six-year trophy drought.

Wilshere was quoted in the Daily Mirror saying:

‘We are not a spending club but we still managed to stay up there with the top teams. And we have to win things this year.’

‘Maybe if we had a few more faces we could really push on. If we get a few more players we can really challenge for the title.’

The England international added:

‘Around March and April we have to stay really strong. We are confident we can be up and around it then so we have to remain strong at that crucial time.’

I believe Jack is right – Arsenal are still a few players short of a title winning side.

In my opinion, Wenger must go out and sign a top quality centre-back at all costs and a replacement for want-away Cesc Fabregas, who seems to be on his way out of the club this summer. However, it seems the Frenchman has acted on this by targeting Valencia star Juan Mata, which is great to see.

This season, Arsenal must remain strong at the crucial times and must also avoid dropping stupid points, if they want to break this Premier League curse.

Hopefully we can capture some form of silverware this season, but without the necessities required (a top centre-back etc) then I can’t see it happening (sorry guys).

Fingers crossed that Wenger does the business this summer.
