Why Arsenal should forget about Tevez and swap Nasri for this City midfielder instead

Former Gunner Lee Dixon has added fuel to the Samir Nasri saga, suggesting that his old club should forget about swapping the French midfielder for Carlos Tevez and look Nigel De Jong instead.

Dixon, who made over 450 appearances for Arsenal, recently stated:

‘He [De Jong] is the type of experienced player that Arsenal’s young squad needs – although his wages may be an issue – and would help to solve a major problem. They have to defend better as a unit, especially when winning the ball back.’

I for one have to agree with Dixon regarding De Jong – the Dutchman would be a good signing. However, as Dixon mentioned, his wages could be an issue for Arsenal – so I’m not going to hold my breath on this proposed deal transpiring.

Would Roberto Mancini even allow De Jong to depart? I highly doubt it after he played in 40 games last season for Man City – I just cannot see them entertaining the idea of letting him go for Nasri to come in.

Man City clearly want to spend the money to acquire Nasri and, in my opinion, we should sell him for approximately £25million so that we can bring in some new players as well.

Let’s start with not looking at who will replace Nasri and Fabregas, let’s start by looking at resolving the issues we need the most. Firstly, let’s sign Gary Cahill and another defender, and then look at signing midfield players.

Right now, the Arsenal fans feel a mixture of anger, relief and shock that their club have lost Cesc Fabregas. We now need some good news to come out of Arsenal so we can overshadow the bad situations.

We need to defend better and we need to come back together as a unit. We are being written off by everyone in the media and word has it we are not the same team we used to be. We don’t know yet whether Nasri will stay at the club or not, although Eboue is on the verge of departing as well after reports claim he is in talks with Galatasaray.

It is all doom and gloom at Arsenal right now, and I think everyone will agree that we need something to happen quickly, something to lift spirits at the Emirates.

IF Man City are stupid enough to let De Jong leave and would entertain the possibility of a swap deal for Nasri, then Arsenal should bite there hands off to make sure the transaction goes through.

In my opinion, it’s a much better option than Tevez, who appears to be nothing more than a mercenary.

What do you guys think about this potential swap deal?

Would he replace Song? Defense at the back is our biggest weak point…not in the midfield. Add Cahill or Samba (whatever the cost) and a striker and we look like a different squad. We need someone upfront for RVP to play off of…I’m not convinced he can handle it all himself.

Song needs replacing, he would get into most prem teams as an attacking midfielder, and although he has undoubtedly improved as a holding player will never be what we really need. De Jong would be good, Cahill and Mertesacker would be brilliant. If the citizens are up for it they could chuck Adam Johnson in as well. I honestly don’t think fab and nasri need replacing that much, jack and Rambo can blossom, and why not put Arshavin in the fab role? That’s where he was playing for Russia when he came to AW’s attention, worth a try

Yeah right, like de jong would be sacrificed for Nasri. We have more of a chance of getting Adebayor and Toure and i am not joking. Richards and Johnson would do for me.

But i would prefer we sell him to Chelsea whilst taking Drogba and Alex.

RVP in the no.10 role behind the best no.9 in the premiership now that is appealing with Alex the beast alongside Vermaelen. Keep Bendtner and Chamakh on as back up to Drogba so that he can teach them how a no.9 should play. Arshavin as back up no.10.
