What position will this Gunner be playing this season?

Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal will not be signing a left-back to replace Gael Clichy, as Thomas Vermaelen could play there instead.

If this is the case, then I ask – who will play in the full-back position this season?

We have been linked with a number of players in the past few weeks – Gary Cahill, Phil Jagielka, Chris Samba, Leighton Baines, and Jose Enrique are to name but a few, but Wenger has yet to finalise a deal for any yet.

Last month, Wenger stated that Arsenal have several resources in this position, and are not in desperate need to sign a left-back this summer.

The Frenchman said:

‘We have Kieran Gibbs, Armand Traore and Thomas Vermaelen who can play at left back so we have what we need.’

Despite Gibbs being the obvious candidate for the job, I have a feeling that TV5 will be shifted to the left-back position this season. However, if this transpires, then Wenger will need to sign a top quality centre-back to fill the gap left by the Belgian.

I truly don’t understand why we are trying to save money. We have all been saying for the past several seasons that we need to sign a quality defender to shore up our back-line, yet nothing has occurred on this front.

We are running out of time to sign a player(s) and to resolve numerous issues surrounding our club. As per usual, we have waited too long to throw ourselves in the market and have already lost a few of our potential transfer targets to other Premier League sides, which is upsetting to see and hear.

Wenger needs to realise that we need reinforcements before the season kicks off. The Frenchman needs to go out and spend the money on the necessities and get rid of the players who want to leave.

Vermaelen is a great player, but he is a centre-back. Ok, he has experience in the left-back position, but to shift our best defender out wide would be ridiculous in my book.

Gibbs is a good young player and is the future left-back of Arsenal. However, the England international could struggle as the season goes on, while Traore is not seen by many as a great player.

Wenger should look to seal a deal for a left-back before the window closes, but I highly doubt he will.

Shifting Vermaelen to the left back position is not a good idea.A better option would be for Mr.Wenger t? bring out the check book and splash the required cash on a top class left back.

In short, we are tired of writing comments because after all comments made nothing still happens so there is no need for writing comments. All blame should be on Mr. Arsene Wenger who publicly said that he is going to be busy this summer and now, busy doing nothing. I just pray and hope that Arsenal don’t disappoint us or……

ya.. wenger is busy… busy on targeting players but not tabling sufficient bid for the players he targeted… Every season is like that… Only have promises but no action taken..

Let’s come down to earth, PLEASE.
    1. The present Window doesn’t close until 31st August. Plenty of time for the wheeling and dealing to bear fruit. We don’t know what is going on behind the scene, but a lot IS.
2.Iain, what evidence have you for the outrageous statement that “we have already lost a few of our potential transfer targets to other Premier Leaague sides”?

LMAO, EXACTLY WHAT I’VE JUST SAID ON ANOTHER ARTICLE!!!!

    • Terminator says:

Erm, we lost Phil jones to United, Alvarz to Inter, Samba looks like he’s going Spurs, Cahill going Liverpool…what are you guys on? We have lost a lot of our targets

  • Ruud Van Tanda says:

That’s like asking Henry to play in MF, just because he can, doesn’t mean he SHOULD! For fuck sake, if we need a LB, then buy one, don’t go getting our BEST CB to play there cos AW/The Board are too fucking tight to spend! Why doesn’t Hill-Wood the CUNT, TELL AW to spend, where is the pressure to deliver, or are they happy to be a mediocre club for the forseeably future? I say fuck the Arsenal, don’t spend another penny until THEY spend! How about a half empty stadium for the opening fixture? I mean, someone did mention the window not closing until Aug 31st right? So, don’t attend games and spend money until these mutha fucka’s spend OUR money and we, the fans, get what WE want!

    # There’s only one Dennis Bergkamp, one Dennis BErgkamp…….! #

    Terminator,
    What are YOU on?
There is no evidence that we were ever interested in either of the guys you mention. Don’t believe the “looks like” guys either. You are beginning to be persuaded by all the media rumours and you’re not the first. Calm down and wait until the 1st September.

wenger must be on crack if he fails to buy a good defender next week
