THREE Ideal solutions to Arsenal’s strike problem

|

Arsene Wenger admitted yesterday that he is on the lookout for three new players to complete his squad. He also revealed that with Nickalas Bendtner leaving for sure, his main priority is to beef up his frontline:

‘We are looking for one more striker because we know he [Bendtner] will leave.’

‘It is important [to strengthen] because we will lose players in January with players going to the African Nations Cup.’

‘We lose Gervinho and Chamakh together so, first of all, it is important to strengthen up front.’

With Gervinho and Chamakh set to miss the crucial January phase due to international duties, Wenger will be left with only one natural striker in Robin van Persie.

Arsenal have failed to score in their first two Premier League matches and it showed that if RVP has a poor game, Arsenal struggle to find the net.

So with reinforcements needed upfront, here is a look at three options that I think Wenger should consider before the transfer window closes this Wednesday.

Peter Odemwingie

Club: West Brom

Estimated value: £11-14 million

Given his brilliant performances last season, many Arsenal fans will be delighted if he were to arrive at the Emirates.

Odemwingie is currently out of action due to injury, but it isn’t a serious one that could hamper a transfer move. His 15 goal haul last season showed that he can score goals at the highest level and he’ll also bring in a lot of experience at the age of 29.

He is a quick striker who possesses good dribbling and passing skills. He has a great turn of pace that is extremely difficult for defenders to cope with and given Arsenal’s style of play, he would fit in really well. He isn’t the best finisher around, but he isn’t someone who is going to miss straight forward chances.

However, Wenger might be put off by his age. Odemwingie soon turns 30 and we are all aware of Wenger’s reluctance to sign players at or over this age. West Brom have made it clear that they want to keep their star striker to consolidate a place in the English top flight under Hodgson, so this is another problem that we would face. Arsenal might well lose him in January due to the African Cup of Nations, With Nigeria in a good position to qualify, Wenger might be reluctant to sign the promising striker, but I feel he is Arsenal’s best option in the market at the moment and he is a risk worth taking.

Rumors linking him to Arsenal have waned over the transfer window, but a new and sincere pursuit will surely help us land this prolific scorer.

What an article! Peter would not be at the African Nations Cup?

I’ve told he will be absent in January. But it is a three week tournament and signings shouldn’t be made with that period in mind. If that is the case, we’ve got the January transfer window.

but dont u realise the reason wenger wants to sign a foward is coz gervinho n chamakh will be away in january.

Well, that’s right. I was merely giving three options that will be best suited to Arsenal. Even now, if RVP is injured, Chamakh isn’t good enough and Gervinho is better on the wings. We need someone who is better than Chamakh.

Here is a better idea sell Chamakh and Bendtner and get 2 decent strikers

Do you really think Higuain and Bent are similar players? I have seen Higuain do things that Bent will never do

    • gunnerviv says:

I agree. Higuain is more talented than Bent, but they both are poachers. In the right place at the right time. Higuain has got a bit of magic in him that Bent hasn’t got for sure.
