THREE Ideal solutions to Arsenal’s strike problem

|

Lucas Barrios

Club: Dortmund

Estimated value: £18-20 million

Yes, Barrios has never been linked with a move to the Gunners and I don’t think Wenger has given it any thought either, but this is probably down to Dortmund’s league success last season, and given Arsenal’s lack of silverware in recent years, the 26-year-old might be inclined towards staying at Dortmund.

But Arsenal are surely a bigger club than Dortmund and with the sale of Nuri Sahin, the German club have shown that they are ready to sell if good offers are tabled.

Barrios is a poacher. He is in the same mould as Darren Bent and Gonzalo Higuain – not the most skilful and magical players out there, but a deadly finisher. He would certainly bring the killer instinct to Arsenal’s creative strike-force and his physical strength and movement will help him settle well at the Emirates.

However, as mentioned earlier, he has never been linked to Arsenal, so it is just the stuff dreams are made of. But there is still time for Arsenal to make a move, right? If given the right offer, I am sure Dortmund would consider it.

Barrios may be tempted by the lure of Arsenal the Premier League, but Wenger must show interest for this to happen.

We play a similar style to Dortmund and he’ll find it easy to adapt into Arsenal’s system. With Bayern Munich strengthening, trophies aren’t guaranteed at Dortmund this season.

I’m guessing a £18-20 million offer would seal the deal.

Theo Walcott

This is Wenger’s best option in my opinion.

I’ve been watching a lot of Walcott lately and he just doesn’t belong on wing. I am not saying he’s not good enough, but he would be even better if he moves into a central role.

Arsenal are missing a creative force in midfield and I feel it is the position we are in dire need of signings.

We’ve got a good array of wingers in Gervinho, Arshavin, Ryo and Chamberlain, and if Wenger adds another player to this department like Hazard, Ayew or Valbuena, then the Frenchman could start using Walcott as a striker. A frontline of RVP/Walcott/Gervinho and Hazard or Ayew would be the most versatile in the Premier league. All four can play in anywhere upfront and teams like Stoke or Fulham that try to tightly mark Van Persie or Walcott will simply be outplayed.

We’ve seen Gervinho and Walcott switch flanks regularly this season, which has been extremely effective. Now if you add Hazard or Ayew to it, we’ll have three players regularly switching positions behind a lone striker, which in turn could be RVP or Walcott!

I personally would love to see my third option become a reality.

Apart from solving our striker problems, we’ll also improve our creativity one.

Arsenal will be able to bring directness, fluidity and versatility to their possession football, which could be really devastating.

What an article! Peter would not be at the African Nations Cup?

I’ve told he will be absent in January. But it is a three week tournament and signings shouldn’t be made with that period in mind. If that is the case, we’ve got the January transfer window.

but dont u realise the reason wenger wants to sign a foward is coz gervinho n chamakh will be away in january.

Well, that’s right. I was merely giving three options that will be best suited to Arsenal. Even now, if RVP is injured, Chamakh isn’t good enough and Gervinho is better on the wings. We need someone who is better than Chamakh.

Here is a better idea sell Chamakh and Bendtner and get 2 decent strikers

  • AidanGooner says:

Do you really think Higuain and Bent are similar players? I have seen Higuain do things that Bent will never do

    • gunnerviv says:

I agree. Higuain is more talented than Bent, but they both are poachers. In the right place at the right time. Higuain has got a bit of magic in him that Bent hasn’t got for sure.
