Former Arsenal boss George Graham has told Arsene Wenger that he must clinch three big-name signings before the transfer window closes, or face the consequences.

Following Arsenal’s disappointing 2-0 loss to Liverpool at the Emirates yesterday, a number of fans once again voiced their frustration and anger at Wenger’s refusal to splash the cash, and Graham, who led the club to six major honours during his time at the helm, has backed them.

At present, Graham believes the Gunners could struggle to finish in the top four if significant reinforcements do not arrive in the next 10 days.

He was quoted in The Sun today saying:

‘They have big signs at the club saying ‘Arsene knows’. Well I hope he does.’

‘They need experienced, outstanding players and I think they need about another three in the side at the present time.’

‘They’ve got the money so please get the cheque book out. Let’s sit down, get some of these players in Wenger’s supposed to be after and see if they can start winning trophies again.’

Graham finished off by stating what he thinks Wenger needs to add to the current Arsenal squad:

‘I think they need another centre-half, a strong, outstanding, experienced midfielder an out-and-out striker like a Thierry Henry.’

I am with Graham on this one.

I also believe we need three big-name signings in the areas Graham pointed out.

A centre-back is a must – Thomas Vermaelen needs an equally good centre-back alongside him. Should TV5 pick up an injury, we’re screwed.

A creative midfielder – this doesn’t have to necessarily be an experienced one, but one that can replace Cesc Fabregas’ creativity, as we seem to have lost this since the Spaniard left for Barca last week. A lot of names have been touted, but nothing has transpired – only 10 days left Wenger.

An out-and-out striker – RVP is a great forward, but, in my opinion of course, looks like a second striker to me. Granted he bags goals, but he doesn’t look like a pure striker, like a Thierry Henry. If the Dutchman gets injured, then we’ve got no one to replace him.

I will not say anymore on the matter until I see what Wenger does in the next 10 days, but to be honest, I’m not holding my breath.

Do you agree with Graham? Do we need three big-name signings?

We are in such deep trouble thanks to the incredibly disgraceful actions (non actions) of Mr Dithers (Arsene) and Ivan the terminal this summer.

I feel so bad for all the capable youngsters that have been thrown into the deep waters of the Premier League, playing for the Arsenal team this season. Mr Dithers has let them all down due to his arrogance and gaellic stubborness this summer. The more the fans and players asked him to bring in experienced, quality players the more stubborn he became. He knows best, just ask him, and it is his view that the team did not “need” to bring in any more experienced players.

Of course we need 3 new players by the end of August, more like 5 are needed but; Mr Dithers has run us out of time. Even if we win the Weds match players are going to be very leery of signing with Mr Dithers given the controversy swirling around the Club at this point in time.

I believe the football world has been shocked at the behavior of Arsenal team management this summer. They know the deficiencies the team has. They know that the non action of Wenger on the recruiting front until the 11th hour, leaves the club in serious difficulty in the coming season. They also see the player unrest, the departures of star players and the controversy swirling around the future of Mr Dithers and they will not be too keen to join the club at this point in time.

In my view George should be talking to Stan about being involved in the search and selection of a new Arsenal Manager. Perhaps George would be willing to pull a Ken Dagleish by stepping in as Manager for the rest of the season and initiating
the rebuilding process that now faces the Arsenal organization.

Stan just invested in buying one of the top Football Clubs in the world. He has to be very disconcerted at how quickly his newest asset has developed serious problems. When a businessman like Mr Kronke sees one of his star assets losing value and credibility he will take whatever actions are available to him. The dynamic duo of Arsene and Ivan have some serious explaining to do particularly if we lose on Wednesday night. The pressure is on, big time and it is nobodies fault except Arsene and Ivan.

    Go Gunners…
