The thoughts of a frustrated tourist

Back to Gunnersphere.com and all things Arsenal, just in time for the season opener.

I thought I would share a few thoughts ahead the new season ahead.

I have been in Tunisia for the past two weeks reading the blogs and reports and have been itching to pour out my heart and share a few frustrations. However, I am not siding with the doom and gloom merchants who seem to have very short memories. I waited 8 years (from 1971) until the FA Cup in 1979, and a further 8 years for a Charlie Nicholas double to win the Littlewoods Cup in 1987. Some of you guys need to take stock and remember how special it has been in the Wenger years and have some faith.

So here we go with a few thoughts and observations from the eternal optimist:

To Cesc Fabregas – farewell with my thanks and my blessing. You have been amazing and one of the greatest players in the modern Premiership era, as I have backed up in many articles. Sorry we have not delivered for you. I hope you break into the starting eleven at Barca, but I have my doubts.

To Samir Nasri – I say see you later you ungrateful sod. Plucked from obscurity and made into a player by Arsene Wenger, your head has been turned by the money after only four one half of amazing football preceded by two seasons of hit and miss. You are a dribbler and not a passer so you could not have replaced Fabregas in the hole behind Robin van Persie, so good riddance. Your move has that of Hleb written all over it. Enjoy your time fighting with 10 other midfielders and keeping the bench warm. At least you will have an old pal in Gael Clichy sat beside you to chat about how you are better than Silva and Kolarov. I look forward to reading in a year’s time how you regret leaving the Arsenal.

These departures do not concern me as much as they do some supporters. I have believed that Ramsey would replace Fabregas for two years, and had he not been injured that fateful day at Stoke, Wenger may not have held our skipper for so long.

The emergence of JW19, as the first name on ours and the England team sheet, has been a huge bonus. It is in the Song role that I feel we have needed experience and I am disappointed we have not strengthened our midfield in this area. I am a fan of Alex Song, but his discipline, along with that of Diaby, has been a problem and Scott Parker seemed a no brainer to me to put pressure on, or to share duties, with Alex.

I am also bemused as to why it has been very quiet on the Felipe Melo front, given that we all know Wenger admires him, wanted him 2 years ago and is currently available. Indeed we could have had his midfield partner for Brazil Gilberto for a further three years and we might have had differing fortunes. A bad decision that one for sure! Perhaps Jadson is the answer, so let’s wait and see, but I would still love to see Parker, Wilshere and Ramsey, if we are to stick with the same formation.

Felipe Melo has moved to Galatasary on a 12month loan. So Wenger could not have been that much interested in him.

Tevez could be at Arsenal in time for Liverpool

He will accept Arsenal’s wage structure it is a matter of ironing out his signing on fee and lyalty payments like we had to with Campbell and Fabregas. Nasri plus £10m!! is what i hear.

Thanks www. Interesting to see if Tevez deal materialises. Would be a real coup in some ways but Wenger does seem set in current formation so he would have to play on opposite flank to Gervinho assuming RVP stays in middle. I have my doubts.
