The thoughts of a frustrated tourist

|

I am delighted with the capture of Gervinho and back him to score more goals that Nasri from the same wide position did. I have the distinct feeling this signing could well be a stroke of the old Wenger genius.

To back up in the wide roles we have the Japanese express, Theo and a slimmed down Arshavin. There is still time for Andrey to deliver a big season and prove his doubters wrong. Play like you did against Barcelona and Man United every game and you could provide us with a settled front 3 alongside Gervinho and RVP. These 3 on form would terrorise any defence home or away.

I am excited by the announcement of Joel Campbell joining and I see this is as a further indication that Wenger still intends to attempt to bring success by outscoring opponents rather than by keeping clean sheets.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a prodigious talent, and living in Southampton, I perhaps have better knowledge than some Gooner observers. However, I feel he is one for next season and beyond, but he will play for Arsenal and England for years to come in the not too distant future.

This is the one area of great concern and I am not too sure where ‘Le Boss’ is going with this. One minute a centre-back signing is a certainty and now it seems its not. I love Thomas Vermaelen and agree it will be like a new signing, but this does not mask the fact that we concede too many from set-pieces, and for the Premier League, we need a bigger stronger centre half amongst our ranks.

I was surprised by the bid for Jagielka, as I do not see him as the solution to our problem. I will not argue with our very own Nigel Winterburn, who saw enough last season to be convinced that ‘Kozzer’ has a big Arsenal future, as he knows far more than us amateur observers. But we do need a taller presence in there, and for my money, this has to be Cahill or Dann.

I wouldn’t go with Samba, as I do not feel he has the same ball playing ability as the others and therefore might not fit at Arsenal. One of these had to come in, which would also gives us the option of playing the Verminator at left-back against the really top attacking sides for greater solidity, should we chose to do so. That is no sleight on Gibbs, who I have already publically backed for the left-back role.

One last point, and this is truly from the heart not the head – I am beginning to wonder that a rejuvenated Rosicky may not have a role to play. He has looked good during pre-season and I sincerely hope that he rises to the task and drags himself away from the Denilson, Eboue, Squillaci, Bendtner, Vela deadwood brigade.

I am writing this some 5 hours before the big K.O against the Toon, but fully hope to be singing ‘we’ve got Gervinho’ in the pub later.

Felipe Melo has moved to Galatasary on a 12month loan. So Wenger could not have been that much interested in him.

Tevez could be at Arsenal in time for Liverpool

He will accept Arsenal’s wage structure it is a matter of ironing out his signing on fee and lyalty payments like we had to with Campbell and Fabregas. Nasri plus £10m!! is what i hear.

Thanks www. Interesting to see if Tevez deal materialises. Would be a real coup in some ways but Wenger does seem set in current formation so he would have to play on opposite flank to Gervinho assuming RVP stays in middle. I have my doubts.
