Should Arsenal play Fabregas in their Champions League play-off to spite Barcelona?

So the Champions League play-off draw has been made, Arsenal will face Serie A outfit Udinese for a place in the illustrious European competition this season.

The Gunners have reportedly rejected Barcelona’s latest bid for captain Cesc Fabregas, which has left many wondering, will the Spaniard be included in the Champions League game against Udinese on the 16th of August?

If Arsenal do decide to play Fabregas in the two legged tie, then it would mean that he would be unable to play in the same competition for Barcelona (should he sign for them of course) this season, a move that has no doubt sent alarm bells ringing in Catalonia.

This would be a very shrewd move by Arsene Wenger if he were to do it, as it would force Barcelona to bid for the player before the game against Udinese commences.

As the day’s countdown, Barca will have to make a decision, they either up their bid and meet Arsenal’s valuation for Fabregas, or resign to no signing this summer, either way it would be considered a win-win situation for the north London club.

In my view we have nothing to lose by playing Cesc Fabregas in the Champions League play-off. If Barcelona are that determined to sign him then they will have to stop tabling insulting offers for our captain and give us an offer that we would accept. If they don’t do this, then they risk him not being able to play in the Champions League this season, a move that would undoubtedly make the Spanish club furious.

It is widely reported that the relationship between the two clubs is at an all time low and this is predominantly down to Barca’s treatment towards us. Comments made by several Barcelona players, especially Xavi, have worsened the situation immensely – is there any wonder why we are threatening to make Fabregas cup-tied for the competition, again, a move that would benefit Arsenal, especially if we were to meet them in the latter stages of the competition.

I for one am glad that we have decided to stand up to Barcelona and push them around for once.

They may be one of the world’s biggest clubs, but the way that they do business is disgusting and it’s about time that someone (Arsenal) showed them that other teams have a voice.

Put up or shut up Barca, end of.

So, should Arsenal play Fabregas in their play-off game against Udinese?

  • MartyP says:

He needs to play. Barsa has shown no respect, as they are seriously under bidding for Cesc. Either they pay or shut up.He is an Arsenal player not a barsa player.

  • para says:

Yes play him if Barca don’t get their act on, after all he is our player.
BUT i am not so sure Cesc will be any good for the team, if so take him off.

  • young_gunnerz says:

hell yeah!!! play him and if he refuses to unto the pitch let him rot on the bench until barca finds 45 mil pounds and pay it all upfront and sue him for not fulfilling his part of his contract.

Sorry Baca! if the club really want to buy this guy let them bring money,we all know good things are very expensive(likewise Fab).If Man city can 40m for Aguiero then Baca should ready to do more than that,Fab with Aguiero pls find something to do?

Fab is not a good captain that is my own opinion.

  • Kai says:

He belongs to us, until they table an offer that matches our valuation they have no right to suggest otherwise. With Nasri and RVP missing we need him. And if they are in any way unhappy then that is just an added bonus.

oh wat a busy summer, I wonder whether wenger knows wat he is doing? why let nasri contract run up to the last year before renewal, we learn the hard way, take the flamini case. someone is not doing their job. wat is gazdis’s job, telling lies to fans, hence the booing. wenger has put trust in the squad for too long thus why some of them are chickening out. they are over-rated hence they have notihing to show for it. advise to those chickening out the grass is not always greener on the other side, take adebayor’s case he is a wandering wanderer now. nasri is overated look for him when france draws with minnows like san marino he wil be nowhere to be seen. he warm the bench at man city like clichy another headless chicken.

  • duducane says:

Cesc will not play as he has developed a hamstring injury that will rule him out of both champions league games.i think this boy is faking his injuries as a way of saying that he wants out.

  • Gooooooner says:

Hey damn right, if he is still here then play him. Its only young can’t he just go next year 🙂

Fellow gooners, found this wicked site which shows you whenever Arsenal are on TV, even old classic games :). Had all the preseason friendy games as well, have a loook http://www.locatetv.com/sport/football/team/arsenal/87

  • Donnie says:

    well its simple

    if arsenal play him
    his staying at arsenal

if arsenal say his injoured or what so
    means he will be sold.

but this matter wil be sorted out by the time the game gets playd.

next week we should get a statment by wenger saying they have accpted the 40mill barca have offer.

or say fab is an arsenal player and his going to stay at the club.
