Do the media scrutinize Arsenal too much?

After the Emirates Cup went to TH14 and the New York Red Bulls, I could not help but notice the amount of belligerent smack talk being directed towards our D-men.

Ok, Johan Djourou did cost us two goals against Boca Juniors. However, against the NYRB, it was an own goal scored by a reserve player.

I really do honestly hate watching ESPN, Setanta or MOTD, because the only people who stick up for Arsenal are ex-players i.e. Lee Dixon, Martin Keown and Patrick Vieira.

The rest of the commentary team have a field day on our back-line and bicker about how we are too weak and cannot mentally cope with the huge amount of pressure each season brings.

Watching on ESPN, I felt bad for Keown, who was desperately trying to defend our ‘frailties’ to the other panelists, which included Robbie Savage, who kept on treating the Emirates Cup draw as a huge loss. Keown valiantly stood behind his former club and Arsene Wenger’s ethos, which I deeply respect.

The fact is, it’s the media who make it incredibly hard on Arsenal and no other big top four club gets as much media scrutiny as Arsenal. If Arsenal defenders make a mistake it will get blown way out of proportion, and then all the pundits start talking about how fragile and weak our defence is. I really hope this season we prove all the haters and doubters wrong!

Displeased fans – I cannot comprehend why the fans were booing after Sundays game, it was a pre-season friendly.

The game had no value; it was more like a testimonial, seeing how Wenger even wanted Thierry Henry to play for the Gunners in the second half.

If my math is correct, then I believe we have won every Emirates Cup apart from two, one went to Hamburg a few years ago, and just this weekend to the NYRB – we have not won any other trophy in the last six years – maybe this year we will win something of more significance.

The media have a major bias against Arsenal simply because they see Arsene Wenger as being anti-English just because he won’t pay ridiculously inflated prices for average players who the media constantly hype up as world class. Also in my opinion this booing would never have happened if we’d stayed at Highbury as all these people who had never been to a match before the emirates would not havebeen there

Well Said Ronan, i cant believe an article about being anti Arsenal, does not mention TalkShite!! all those Spurs supporters and ex football pundits (p.s. i am not going to even mention that ginger twats name!!!) all seem to manage to get disillusioned gunners ringing up, or sending in e-mails, but when Redknapp claimed that people who ring up radio stations are idiots, there was no coverage about it whatsoever!!!

These rants by the media did not start now but unfortunately, some arsenal blogs re begining to take after the ‘hate’ pioneers. When wenger came to arsenal, they had no idea who he was and so laughed at our chances but he proved them wrong, stood up against them with their cheap lies. For them, the battle line was drawn. Some of us know these media guys will stop at nothing to bring wenger’s reputation to the mud but we don’t ve any green in the eyes. Chelsea stayed about 50yrs before a major trophy and didn’t get any hate as we do now, liverpool? Never won the EPL but do hear crap stories about them? No! Barca stayed about 6yrs in the shadows of madrid but now they re respect for the football they play. On a sad note, most of arsenal’s legend in the media re not helping matters at all but thank God for some sites who still find time to sanitizes the blogsphere

No wonder our best players want to leave. You cannot play for a team where you don’t feel the love from your fans and supporters. Watching the Arsenal last season, it was clear that players enjoyed the away games much more than the home games, and that’s what really cost us. Liverpool! 19 years without the EPL title and still, Anfield is hostile to foreign teams. Do you feel that at the Emirates Stadium?
You think winning trophies is all about the team? No, the fans and supporters have to pitch in too. To lift your team when you feel they are waning. When was the last time that happened to the Arsenal? Some times, Gooners should be ashamed.

Welcome on board! Everybody is (at last!) waking up to the press, media, and ref bias against Arsenal. People the world over want to watch Arsenal. Most people are fed up with rich muppets messing about with our game. Arsenal are a proper run club and prove that great football in a great stadium is possible without transfer balances of a billion negative. The Prem, Press and Media find the love of Arsenal embarrassing. Hype sells. Anti-hype does not sell papers. So they follow the money and pulling Arsenal down is part of the Hype policy. The last thing THEY want is for Arsenal to win stuff. That is why they wind up our ‘slow’ (to put it kindly) brethren and turn a blind eye (or demand) the bizarre ref performances. Money talks. Hackers have been tracking the wrong people. We can’t stop them pulling us down however unfair it is. But we can let everyone know that it is happening–and why! And, of course— we can love, and laugh at, the attempts THEY have to go to to try to pull down Arsenal. Look at how much our challengers have to spend to keep ahead! Everyone, except our ‘slow moaners’ knows we are brilliant deep-down. And real men (I have to applaud Roy Keane paticularly on this score) come out and say as much. But just don’t expect the spineless, weasley, money grabbing gits of the press and media to stand up. They were appointed because they are toadies in the first place. Laugh at the clowns. Some with quality, like Burley and Keown, will only go so far and they make the others look even more stupid! Who is the new long-haired clown on ESPN?
Remember– with fair protective reffing (to shield us from all those injuries as well)– we would have won the league every year since 2007. One of these days, the words ‘won nothing for 6 years’ will sick in someone’s throat and choke them. Sad, but at least it will stop me laughing at them –for a while!!

finally, my sentiments exactly – now imagine if it was Arsenal that was in Chelsea shoes during their lows , we would have been buried in this bad vibe and even now as they havent really strengthened, Torres would never read a paper lol.. worse is if we started last season like liverpool and missed out on champions league footbal ohh GOD that would have been the end…
Watch this space, even if we spend to strengthen we will still be ridiculed that we couldn’t maintain our principles and thus should no longer criticize the man city’s of this world etc.. there are just no positives no matter what we do… unfortunately this gloom and doom reporting is getting to the fans….However i wish we could win the league.. just to mute them.. its the least the Men who have worked so hard to get Arsenal to where they are deserve.
