Can Wenger really afford to let go of this man?

Arsene Wenger has all but announced that out-of-favour forward Nicklas Bendtner could stay at the Emirates this season.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Frenchman said:

‘I promised I’d let him go if he found the right club and that hasn’t changed. When I make a promise, I keep it. But if he doesn’t find the right opportunity, he’ll stay and fight for his place like everybody else. He looks sharp in training.’

Bendtner was named as a substitute in last night’s game against Udinese, but was not called upon. However, with Marouane Chamakh underperforming and Carlos Vela looking set to seal a season long loan deal to Real Sociedad, can Wenger really afford to let go of the 23-year-old Dane?

It’s a tough question to answer, as we don’t know who Arsenal are looking at this summer. However, if we base it on the fact that a striker is highly unlikely to come in, then Bendtner will be needed as a backup option, regardless of whether he likes it or not.

Gervinho is suspended for the next 3 Premier League games so there is a small chance that Bendtner could feature for us soon. However, it is equally likely that Wenger will choose Chamakh over the Dane as he did last night at the Emirates.

Currently, I don’t think Wenger can afford to lose Bendtner, purely for the fact that our forward line is diminishing by the minute. However, I cannot see Wenger doing a complete u-turn and telling Bendtner that he cannot leave Arsenal having already given his word that he could, if the price is right of course.

we need to let him go. we cannot rely on bendtner.

Let’s hope arsene buys another striker (even if it’s cheap) because surely, they have to be better than bendtner.

Does it matter? Bendy isn’t a 20 goal a season striker and never will be. He can score a hat-trick one week and then be absolute bollocks for the next 3 months.

We need another striker of RVP quality because you know Glass Man is going to get injured for 3-4 months….

YES we can.. he is an embarressment to the club. what a ridiculous article.. wed be better off with a untried 15 year old. The reason he is still at our club is bcoz NOONE wants the dead weight. Having said all of that he may win the ballon’dor this year. :/

You negative lout. You have no idea what you will be missing if he leaves and ends up with another Premier league squad. He has the ability to score a lot of goals. Ask the Danish Country Team how valuable Bentner is to their program.

Lord help us if everyone is as negative as you are. The self confidence of the young players on the team will be shattered before they have a chance to develop.

You people are so peculiar. Bentner is a decent player who has scored a lot of big goals for Arsenal. He has also missed a few sitters which has been embarassing for him but then again, most players have missed a few easy goals in their careers.

Look at the massive miss by Theo just yesterday when he was in all alone in front of the net, tried to chip the goaltender rather than take the open shot and “messed it up” big time… Now that was embarrassing…

Bentner has been played out of his position far to often by Wenger and it caused him serious problems. The man is a 6 ft 4 inch striker for heavens sakes not a winger…

I remember him playing every game in the spring a couple of years ago and he was awesome. Game after game he scored the winning or tying goal for us in the last few minutes of play to rescue games that we were about to drop big points in.
Big reason we were able to fend off a big challenges from other teams to finish 4th…

I also remember him coming in as a sub in a number of games and scoring beautiful goals to turn momentum around. His headers are the best…

I sincerely hope we are able to keep him and play him where he wants to play, as a central striker. He is so much better than the forlorn Chamach who was simply awful in the game yesterday. He and RVP would make a far superior duo than RVP and Chamach. Shucks we will be lucky if Wenger manages to get a CB and a mid fielder or two let alone a striker before the end of this transfer period.

Bentner has likely learned a lot about himself from his discussions with other teams. Now if only “supporters” like you folks could be less harsh in your criticism of him… Remember the positives not just the negatives….

    UP Gooners…. Keep big Nick….

    ahhhh after all that

    his going to stay :S
i rather him go on lone and do well then maybe a club will come in for him.

but am sure he wil be sold
someone will come in for him in the last few days of the window.

For over 40 years i have learn to trust my judgement and i will be consistent by encouraging wenger to continue to have faith in bendtner and not to follow the fans.Bendtner is a character which we will respect but on the field he is a classic player
