A month is a long time in football

A month’s a long time in football, but this one could pass us by in a flash.

Friday morning came and went with no further news from team Wenger.

With the Tsunami rapidly approaching in 7 days – unwanted trials with Udinese following shortly after, and our progression barometer against Brand United in 3 weeks time – the squad is, well the squad is pretty much the bloody same.

Following Arsene Wenger’s end of season statements regarding strengthening, we seem to be back where we started and some what confused regarding the future.

Out have gone: Gael Clichy & Denilson, and Manuel Almunia & Nicklas Bendtner have been seemingly ostracised until sold.

In have come: Carl Jenkinson and Gervinho.

So technically, two players down.

10 weeks on and we are no clearer on the location of, arguably, our two star players.

We are still flirting with Barça, holding out for £40 million for Cesc Fabregas, which leaves the club and fans in limbo, whilst stories of Samir Nasri won’t go away – can we really afford to sacrifice £20 million on principles?

Haggling with Valencia seems to have cost us the jump on Mata and the quest to find a centre-back seems never-ending.

To top it all off, the team photo was miraculously postponed ‘for a few weeks’! Good job really, we might have different captain by then.

A month can be a long time in football and the first 3 weeks of this season could define everything, if the side isn’t settled.

Lets just hope that everything is sorted out by the 13th of August and that we’re not panic buying on the 31st.

It’s the other way round, actually.
Clichy is out, but Traore’s back from Juve, so it’s even.
Denilson is out on loan, but Frimpong, Lansbury and Eastmond are up, so they’re better than they were before.
Almunia could go, but Mannone is back and Szczesny and Fabianski are good enough to better the Spaniard.
Bendtner could go, but Gervinho is here, and Wenger is trying to put Miyaichi on the job.
If you add all that up, Arsenal have actually strengthened numerically, and they definitely didn’t weaken.
The problem is not that there’s not enough players, but that there are not enough players of “super quality,” as Wenger put it. Apparently the people who negotiate the deals got stuck in some of them, and in some cases failed to pull it off. I don’t think all the reported names were quite right, for instance, I’m not quite sure Arsenal were ever in for Samba or Cahill, it’s quite likely they didn’t compete for Alvarez and the other South American players on the media roster. Of late, only Jagielka, Mata and Campbell looked believable, and I think the Mata deal fell through in part because of the Cesc-Nasri issues, presumably because no one could assure Mata now he’d get straight into 1st XI. But all that is simple stipulation, the fact is the current squad, even without Cesc or Nasri, is playable, but shoulg gain in strength.

your stupid post has so many mistakes. firstly no player is signed on the basis he is guaranteed first team 11. every player has to work hard to play. its called competition for position. you talk about frimpong, henri, eastmond and ryo. So will these players win us the title this year will they. clichy is a french international and traore is not good enough to even be close to the french team. probably never will be.
arsenal have to register a 25 man squad but under 21s dont have to be registered. so when counting arsenal will only be registering 20 players from the official first team on arsenal.com. compared to last year we able to register 25 over 21 players. This is not good and we are too young and inexperienced as a team to win titles. We always say we lack maturity and experience and again we are even younger and less experienced.
So numerically we may seem to have more players but no we dont. we are shitter this year than last.

I hope wenger realises that his hold over the fan-base is deteriorating rapidly ! It is worrying because people losing trust in wenger has gone from a loud minority to a widespread movement

They guy has to get hold of the reigns again, it appears he has lost all sense of direction!

Best players wanting out, no significant signings – a weak defense that wont go away and our attack has not looked brilliant as of yet either.

What on earth has he been doing for 2 months ? Its his job to fix these problems and if its not then why is he so publicly involved – just shut and yet gazadis take the rap!
