‘You’re better off selling an unhappy player and cashing in’

Former Gunner John Hartson reckons Cesc Fabregas’ proposed move to Barcelona should be completed as quickly as possible so that Wenger and Arsenal can prepare for life without their captain.

Earlier this week, Barca boss Pep Guardiola admitted that the Gunners had agreed to negotiate over the sale of the 24-year-old Spaniard, who netted only 3 Premier League goals last season.

However, only last week, Arsene Wenger stated that he would fight tooth and nail to keep Fabregas and Samir Nasri, who is wanted by both Manchester clubs, at the Emirates this season.

But it now appears that the Frenchman’s stance has weakened, and that the north London club are ready to listen to respectable offers for the want-away Spaniard this summer.

However, Hartson, who had a two year spell at Arsenal, hopes that the potential deal is sorted out quickly so that the club can prepare for the upcoming season without any stress or loss of focus.

Speaking to talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, the 36-year-old Welshman said:

‘You’re better off selling an unhappy player and cashing in.’

‘Wenger can go out before the window shuts and get players who would sweat blood to play for Arsenal.’

‘This has been going on for two or three years, not two or three months.’

‘I don’t think his form was as good as it could have been [last season]. He was a shadow of the Fabregas we all know.’

‘He’s meant to be captain and he’s meant to be the leader but his performances have dropped. He wants to go home, he’s said that to Arsene Wenger on many occasions.’

‘Barcelona are a magnificent club so if Arsenal can get the right offer for him, £38-40 million, that’s a good deal.’

Do you agree with John Hartson’s claims?

Yer, Ces and his destabilising influence of AFC must go before the season kicks off. He should have been gone this time last season anyway.
Good riddance, as good as he is/was he did not convert his quality to AFC anyway in the last 2 seasons.
