Is Samir Nasri overrated?

Samir Nasri looks increasingly likely to leave Arsenal in the upcoming weeks, and undoubtedly, Arsenal fans are dreading the prospect of losing another of their star players.

The 24-year-old has become a recent attraction for some of England’s top premier clubs following a fantastic season last year, which gave him a place in the PFA Team of the Year.

Undoubtedly, since his arrival back in 2008, the French midfielder had his best year in Arsenal colours last season. He kept the team afloat and in the title race for much of 2010. His performances are even more significant given the fact that Arsenal were without two of their best players – Fabregas and RVP – for almost the entire first-half of the season. Nasri thrived in the advanced role that Arsene Wenger played him in and was starting to do justify why the Gunners paid £12 million for him nearly four-years ago.

Tipped as the future of the French national team, Nasri has been in the headlines all summer because of his widely publicised contract talks with Arsenal.

With only a year left in his contract, Arsenal are determined to get as much as possible for him if he fails to sign a new deal, which has alerted England’s best clubs to look into the possibility of signing the French playmaker this summer.

But what is the reason for so many clubs clamouring to sign him? Is he really that good? How are these clubs so convinced about his talents? Plainly, is he overrated?

Now, before you guys start cursing me for being a pessimistic fool, I want you to know that I like Samir Nasri as much as you guys do. I have liked him ever since he signed for us back in 2008, and I’ve seen him grow into one of Arsenal’s key players in the last couple of years.

I’ve been criticizing Nasri in my recent articles, but this is mainly because of my disappointment and anger at his refusal to sign a new contract, not because I think he is a bad player. I still believe he has a long way to go before he can be compared with Fabregas, but last season proved that he can shoulder responsibility and drive this club forward.

Well to the above question is he overrated? I think the answer is a clear ‘no’. If Ashley Young is good enough for United and Carroll is good enough for Liverpool, then certainly Nasri is good enough too.

The France international is one of the most gifted players in England at present, and over the past year, he has made people sit up and take notice with some stellar performances.

yes…. like a mothafucker. He is easily replacable. Even cesc is replacable. There are only a handful of players that are irreplacable and maybe even priceless. Messi,Ronaldo and Rooney are the three players that are currently worth their weight in gold.
He is a good player to have, dont get me wrong but he is not a player who will consistently play well.

Yes Nasri is very overated indeed.Last season he played well enough up to the New Year, then when the ‘Going got Tough’he disappeared .As far as i am concerned he is the French Hleb, and we all know what became of him.Sell him for as much as we can get,buy a player with a BACKBONE,and then watch Nasri go the way of Flamini,Abeydayor,Hleb. No way do i want to see him playing for our great club next year, and certainly not with an over inflated, undeserved Salary.

Extremely over-rated, thats good for us because we can get good money for him

26 goals and 13 assists in 108 games for arsenal is wat i call overrated…surely for someone who thinks he is the cream of the crop and wants to get more paid…
You could find players like nasri, skill full dribblers all around the world… players like hazard, alvarez, mata , and the biggest parts of south america…
doesnt need to leave, but if he does, i wont cry for him…!

yes. a little bit. the end

  • Dan AKA The Truth says:

He’s quality when Wenger ‘the Genius’ actually plays him in his favoured position. I noticed that he became annonymous the moment Wenger started playing him on the wings again.

    Terrible manager!

    WENGER OUT! NOW!!!

  • Peter says:

NO. those who are saying he only played good in the first part of season: that’s because he played as a CAM. when on the wing, how do u expect him to score/ assist as much? When RVP can’t win much headers.

Yes he did not play good for the last 5-10 games, but no one did.

Nasri is only over-rated if he decides to leave Arsenal.

Wenger for most part of the season played nasri on the wings…even the first half of the season when he scored lot of goals he was played majorly on the wings but the interchangeability of our midfield wont allow you see this..he played more like an inverted winger, not your traditional winger that stays on the wings all day,he cuts in from their to central positions in the final third to score goals..go watch most of the goals he scored….however i feel he is overrated nd selfish.Check his stats…124 games, 27 goals, 16 assists….compare with arshavin whom many of you think should go…106 games, 28goals, 33 assists…i have problem with nasris assists…as a midfielder its appauling….i wont miss him…he would soon discover like many of the players that left before him that the sysytem that arsenal plays is what makes most of them extra ordinary as it were…imagine a nasri playing for a dull team like man city or man united…he would be exhausted running up and dwon defending than attacking…he would be wasted!
