Here are my current thoughts on Arsenal to date:
Pre-season performances:
To be honest, pre-season doesn’t really tell us anything about the regular first-team players, we just hope they don’t pick up any injuries.
However, it is a great indicator to check out the new signings and observe how the injured players returning to action look.
Thomas Vermaelen – looks like the Belgian defender is getting better game by game, as he slowly regains his confidence. I for one cannot wait to see him at 100% and in the heart of Arsenal’s defence this season.
Tomas Rosicky – another player who’s spent ages on the sidelines. To my surprise, he actually hit the net during the game against Malaysia XI – the midfielder MUST have listened to me and changed his boots! He looks to be back to full fitness and raring to go.
Carl Jenkinson – the kid has a lot to learn, but looks comfortable on the ball. You really have to feel for the youngster after his own goal against FC Cologne, It just looked like he shanked the ball and the rest was history – to be fair to him it was at the end of the first half and the guy looked dog-tired. Better to happen to him in pre-season than against Newcastle, and besides, the same thing happened to my buddy Lee Dixon one time.
Gervinho – aka ‘The Forehead’ scored two pretty decent goals. However, I’m still not convinced. I want to see how he plays under Premier League pressure. Lets not all go ape sh*t over him just yet!
The most pressing issue at hand for the club is acquiring another centre-back.
Bids have been made, but I really don’t think that they are serious ones. They seem forced, as if they were to convince the fans that they are in fact trying to buy and add squad depth, but in actuality, when has Arsene Wenger ever spent more than £15 million on a defender. Don’t get me wrong, it would be great to get Phil Jagielka, Chris Samba or Gary Cahill on board before the start of August. However, Wenger will probably buy a 16-year-old centre-back.
A comment about Patrick Vieira’s comments regarding us as ‘weak’. I think he is 100% correct, we do focus a lot on technical skill and not enough on the physicality of today’s game. The game is changing and players are now bigger and stronger than ever. Hopefully Wenger realizes this and makes changes this season.

cissikho from lyon could be a potential signing
remi garde (ex arsenal) is the gaffer at lyon, maybe a deal could be agreed involving someone like bendtner
I am sure Wenger will read your blog with interest and, paying due respect to your superior knowledge of the top flight game, act on all your recommendations.
