Ex-Gunner claims Fabregas saga is halting Arsenal’s progress – is he right?

Stewart Robson has urged Arsene Wenger too swiftly sell Cesc Fabregas and end the transfer saga which is halting Arsenal’s overall progress.

Robson, who was with Arsenal for 8 years during the late 70’s – mid 80’s, believes that the chronicle surrounding Fabregas’ move to Barcelona is stopping Wenger from concentrating on the most important thing at hand, strengthening the team for the new season ahead.

The ex-Arsenal midfielder told talkSPORT yesterday that the time has come for the Gunners to cut the 24-year-old Spaniard loose and focus on ending the clubs six-year trophy drought:

‘It happened with Thierry Henry for two or three years, [Arsene Wenger] kept on saying we’re not going to sell him but it was obvious Thierry Henry wanted to go. That was a distraction not just for Arsene Wenger but for the whole football club.’

‘Everybody at Arsenal knows that Cesc Fabregas is going to go and the sooner he goes the better as far as I’m concerned. Not because he is a bad player, not because he is a bad character but because it will put an end to the speculation.’

‘Then Arsene Wenger can go and buy a replacement or he can give Samir Nasri more money to keep him and buy two centre-halves. The sale of Cesc Fabregas is key to Arsenal’s summer signings.’

I couldn’t agree more with Robson.

I also believe that the time has come for Cesc to leave, as I feel his heart is not with the club, even though he may claim it is.

His potential sale could lead to better things for the club as Robson stated.

Fabregas’ departure would free up some money on our wage bill, which could then be offered to contract rebel Samir Nasri. As well as that, a potential £40 milllion from the Spaniard’s sale to Barca would also allow us to go out and buy what we truly require before the new season kicks off.

The sooner this transfer saga, which has been going on for almost two years now, is over the better – not only for Wenger and the club, but for us (the fans) as well.

Do you agree with Robson’s claims?

Let me put it like we would put it in the states….”let his bitch ass go” Only male soccer players whine and yelp like this. Every professional male should have been made to watch how the women comported themselves in the past World Cup. No diving, no whining, sports manship and playig…clowns at Barsa have turned me from an admirer into a fan of everyone but them. Their arrogance, tapping up other teams players so they can get them cheaper is outrageous.

I couldn’t agree more. It is very important to get things done swiftly and concentrate on the solutions, than drag the situation and frustrate, the player himself, the other players, and every body else.
It is true that Fabregas has a contract, but he expressed his wish that he wants to go, so let him go.

    yes, I agree with him…

Get it over and done with! I’ve been brainwashed by this whole ‘Fabregas saga.’ Fabregas Barca Fabregas Barca Fabregas Barca Fabregas Barca Fabregas Barca Fabregas Barca Fabregas Barca Fabregas Barca Fabregas Barca…….. get out of my head!

I totally agree, but if Barcelona want him so badly, why don’t they pay the price? They are trying to buy Sanchez for 40 millions, who had one good season, but they are not willing to buy Cesc, who is playing at top level for the last 4-5 years? Total garbage. They gotta pay up to get him. If they do, we can gladly sell him and thank him for his services.

fabregas WILL STAY at Arsenal…………………by default.

I have been saying for months now that our team will be stronger without cesc.. May sound silly, but too much attention is given to him, the other players will always look to go through cesc rather than attacking themselves.

Jack and rambo will grow when cesc leaves and wil become men, just as cesc did when Henry left.

Cesc is a wonderful player, but when he hugged the entire barca team in the tunnel INFRONT of his young side before the biggest night of their lives, he lost my heart.

I’d like us to sell fab now IF we are going to do it, and buy two more quality central mids, one defensive as song cover, and one creative ion the mould of cesc. Then all we would need is a strong CB and a genuine striker.

I just think that Barca are too pissed off about belerain and toral too meet our demand. Plus barca have publicly stated that cesc is worth a lot less this year, even though they have been aggressive in their pursuit of Neymar and sanchez, tabling bids of around 45 mil. So how is this going to make cesc feel? Probably like shit.

Fab has the best assists record in europe over the last 5 years and they offer almost 2 times as much for inexperienced prospects like sanch and Neymar.

So basically there is NO WAY that barca will give us a fair price as they see fabregas as their own property already, plus they are fuming over toral and hector ( hahahaha! gutted barca!)

Unless fab hands in a transfer request I can’t see it happening, he signed a contract and Wenger wants him to stay, the rest is just paper talk.

Everybody agrees that the time is right to sell Fabregas. The issue is that he’ll only go to one club and that one club won’t offer Arsenal what Fabregas is worth. There’s not much we can do about that and no manager will sell a player (probably the best in the world in his role) for a fraction of what he’s worth simply to rid ourselves of the constant speculation. Honestly I don’t think the media jibes are bothering the club as much as it’s bothering the fans and in this market, Fabregas is a 60 Million pound player easily – I mean look at the prices that Kaka, Ronaldo and Ibrahimovich went for. Barcelona are victims of a transfer market they helped to create and thus need to come up a sufficient amount or wait until Cesc’s contract is over. They’re fucking annoying and they’re pissing me off.

I totally agree, am personally tired of the whole transfer saga. Sell this guy and let us move

Robson (and many others) are quite right. The time for Cesc to return home is at hand. I well recall Henry’s last season at Arsenal. It was quite obvious that his mind was elsewhere and I, for one, was not sorry to see him go. At the end of last season I seemed to sense a similar atmosphere with Cesc, coupled with the feeling that we had seen the best from him.
It is vital, however, to ensure that Barcelona pay OUR valuation for him and not the sum that they dictate. In this instance it’s a sellers’ market.

The sooner Febragas goes, the bettet for everyone. He should have been sold 2 years ago because he has not really been productive for the past 2 seasons, either because he was injured, and his heart has not really been with Arsenal. He is a very Big distraction to the club. Wenger,s whole plan for the club seems to be centered around Febragas. Wenger can not change his formation because it may not suit Febragas which also affect other players negatively because they are played out of their natural positions just to accomadate Febragas.

Let him go and let’s move on. I belive the team sometimes plays better, when Febragas is injured and not in the lineup. We Can and Will Do Better without Febragas.
