Can this man become Arsenal’s new king?

For more than four seasons, Arsenal have been searching for a forward that could fill the boots of Thierry Henry.

In my opinion, the void left by this Arsenal great can be compared to that left by Diego Maradona in the Argentinean National side.

We have looked up to Theo Walcott and Robin Van Persie, but injuries in recent season have denied them the pleasure of showcasing their true talent.

In our quest to end our trophy drought, which now stretches to 6 years, this season we need an additional force up front to keep the heat on our rivals, week in week out.

Born in Anyama, Côte d’Ivoire on the 27th of May 1987, Arsenal’s forthcoming recruit Gervais Yao Kouassi, known simply as Gervinho, could be the man to fire the Gunners to honours this season.

The 5’10’’ Ivorian, who can play as a winger or as a lone striker, has played for Beveren, Le Mans and Lille, where he bagged a total of 59 goals in 203 appearances. At international level, Gervinho has worn the Cote d’Ivoire colours 27 times, scoring 6 goals along the way.

After a very impressive first season at Lille, a number of top European clubs such as AS Monaco, PSG and Marseille all wanted his signature.

Gervinho was a key player for Lille last season, helping them to their first Ligue 1 title since 1955 (57 years of waiting!), and a Coupe de France triumph as well.

His success and quality displays on the pitch drove attracted interest from Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and big spenders Manchester City. Gervinho chose Arsenal though, and is expected to iron out personal terms in the next few days.

Gervinho has captained the Ivory Coast Olympic team in the past and partook in the 2008 African Cup of Nations in Ghana as well as the 2010 World Cup, where he was arguably Ivory Coast’s most outstanding performer.

He had a fantastic goal scoring and assist record last season in Europe, second only to Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

I believe Gervinho will be a hit at Arsenal, and truly hope that he can aide us in ending this trophy drought this upcoming season.

All Wenger needs to do now is solve our defensive problem and we should be good to go.

No, I dont think Gervy by himself is going to get us tropies. We need defenders. If we can keep RvP fit all season we can easily win the league. He is that good. Gervy, nowhere near RvP talent. I think he should fight it out with Walcott. And when RvP gets injured move Walcott upfront. I know he will get injured otherwise it’ll be too easy!

I agree nikko. I’m more than happy with gervinho coming to our club. But I do belive if we had a solid back line we could have been champions. Get samba and Richards or cahill and we fedo have a chance

second to messi and ronaldo is third lol! I’m looking forward to seeing this guy. I’ve been saying for ages that we need another african front man. Adebeyor, whilst being an idiot, knew how to score goals. Kanu was a legend. We have a good record with african forwards. Can’t wait. As long as wenger doesn’t tinker too much then next season could be good!

  • WOLF says:

This is what we need. Not just cause of his skill but how we acquired him. I’m sure that Man City were prepared to offer him a ton of money but he chose to play for Arsenal instead cause he looks at it as special opportunity and a privilege, not a RIGHT.
