Arsenal’s next legend

I thought it would be welcome to read an uplifting tribute to a true Arsenal legend in the making who gives his heart and soul for our club, and unlike others, wants to fulfil his destiny of winning club medals at his spiritual home.

Like his fellow Dutch maestro, whose number 10 he took last season, Robin van Persie has every attribute to become a true legend at Arsenal and around the world.

In 2009, Arsene Wenger paid a glowing tribute to RVP and predicted what I believe we saw this past season:

‘He can be the best passer in the League and the best goal scorer in the League,” said Wenger. “He is an intelligent player, he turns very quickly, the timing of his runs is fantastic and he has a short back lift.’

‘He is the kind of player, with the type of game we play, who is vital because when you play the ball to his feet his first touch is always perfect and that allows others to join in. In the box he is clever and intelligent.’

All we have ever needed from RVP was a season where he played injury free for a prolonged period to consistently see what Wenger had always seen. That season was 2010/11 when the Dutch forward delivered for the Gunners on every level repaying all the faith in the manager, coaching staff and us (the fans).

It is this man, along with Jack Wilshire, who consistently endeavoured to drag us towards a trophy from Christmas onwards, not Cesc Fabregas or Samir Nasri.

Fabregas, had he been fit and able to play unhindered, would of course have delivered, but Nasri did very little in the second half of last season to justify the huge pay increase we hear he desires. We do not hear RVP publicly demanding more money and parity with Fabregas. Indeed if he felt it was required, I am fairly certain he would simply request a private meeting with Wenger and the red tops would never hear of it.

The Dutchman has matured in recent years, perhaps due to a combination of fatherhood and both Wenger’s and successive national team manager’s obvious belief in him.

So, whenever you pick up the papers or read the blogs hearing about those who may or may not wish to leave our great institution, just think about those who publicly tell us they wish to win medals, our way and with our club – Wilshere, Ramsey, Sagna, Vermaelen, Walcott and most of all, van Persie.

Beautiful Article mate, just that we should not hate Nasri right now, coz he still is an Arsenal player. He might have not done that well during the 2nd part of the season, but he still gave his best(The Arshavin goal against Barca, beautiful assist). As far as contract issues, he never said anything public about that mate, its just that the media brought it up coz he is a media darling at this point of time.

RVP’s loyalty is feck , he has enjoyed a good pay whilest sitting at home for a long time. Wait until he gets his name on the top scorer’s list that is if he will ever. For me his childish temper makes him loose his mind when the game ain’t swinging our way, that affects his concentration on the pitch. More of a wenger kicking bottles in the pitch. You say nasri didn’t do enough so who did better than him, this is a team game and last time i checked RVP has never been team. You want proof you will have it this season when he has to carry the burden of this team like fab and Nasri have done. This guy blocks good striker signings yet he is never there for the team.

Not being available due to injury for most of the season and still comes close to being top scorer in the league, is that not good enough? This ‘childish temper’ you mention is in fact Van Persie playing with passion which others in the team seem to lack, we would do so much better if we had more players with his mentality. He may lose his temper sometimes and that’s because he really cares about the team doing well and not only his bank balance, while the others look for a escape door when things aren’t going so well.

If you have nothing meaningful to say, then say nothing. We want players who will play with their heart and not their wallet. Rvp is a true gunner and nothing will stop him from winning trophies with The Arsenal.

RvP is just the kind of player we need in each position of the field. He is just amazing, a world class player, commited to his club and fans. He’s on Arsenal since 2004 and never said anything about leaving the club.
I would like to see him as our captain next season.
Players like Nasri says that they want to leave the club because of the lack of silverware, as if they were not guilty for that!
RvP, in my humble opinion already is an Arsenal legend and he was one of the few players that deserved a trophy last season

Thanks guys. Maimaba if you read it I at no point have I indicated any lack of quality from Nasri, and I sincerley hope he stays. I just pointed out that at the business end of the season he lost his form and RVP and JW19 were pulling more than their weight. As for you criticism of RVPs temper I would have agreed with you a ferw years ago but not now. Lucas, Leo and Rankk are spot on. RVP is the man now and for years to come and I hope he stays fit for the whle season and whos knows what he and the team could achieve. Where did you ever read that RVP blocked moves for other strike partners?I have never heard of this.

    Next Captain? OR Verminator?

Rvp is a true legend for guna, if we can have 5 player like him in the team then we are ok.
