Nasri demands Wenger to acquire quality if he is to stay at Arsenal

With his future at Arsenal in doubt, Samir Nasri has asked Arsene Wenger to acquire big names in the transfer market if he is to commit himself to the North London club.

Though Wenger insisted that Nasri will not be sold to Manchester United, the French playmaker’s interest in the stories have certainly put Arsenal in a tight spot.

Nasri joined the Gunners back in 2008 from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, and has had a mixed bag until this season.

The 23-year-old Frenchman exploded onto the scene in August 2010 with some amazing performances in the absence of captain Cesc Fabregas. He did have a freefall in form since the turn of the year though, but his earlier performances caught the attention of Europe’s elite. Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Barcelona, and most recently, Manchester United, are all said to be interested in the France international, but nothing has yet transpired.

With the danger of losing him next summer on a free, Arsenal have been offering him a contract worth 90,000-a-week to satisfy their star, but Nasri has deemed it insufficient.

Nasri stated in March that it was ‘today or never’ for Arsenal to win the Premier League, but he and the rest of the team fell apart towards the end.

The Guardian has today revealed that the French midfielder has demanded Arsene Wenger to make some quality signings, in addition to reportedly demanding a pay package similar to that of Cesc Fabregas.

Though Wenger has recently shown an inclination to spend in the transfer market this summer, no official announcement has been received from the club.

Nasri wants Arsenal to show some real intent in the market and buy a few established names in order to convince him that the club can win silverware next season. However, Wenger is yet to find the players who will fit into the team.

It is clear that Nasri is using Manchester United as a trump card to make sure Arsenal accept his demands. Though he is a fantastic player, I still believe that no player is bigger than the club. Footballers are generally overpaid, and with just six months of good performances under his belt, it certainly seems to be a slap in the clubs face to demand such huge wages.

He does not deserve to be paid on par with Fabregas, who has been outstanding for the past 5 years for Arsenal, and there is no doubt that he is a much better player and performer than Nasri.

Nasri is in no position to hold the club to ransom, and if he feels that his every whim and demands have to be met, then the club would be better off by selling him, and acquiring some players who are committed to the cause.

Nasri failed to realize that he is one of the reasons arsenal did not win the league he underperformed when we needed him the most. sell for 20mil and buy some proven talent.

There are 2 issues as you have pointed out; the wage demand and the desire to win something with quality players recruited.
Its a shame that the money issue has blurred what would have been a great lever to push wenger into making some quality signings. He isnt worth the same as fabregas, so on that basis he can leave as far as i’m concerned. However the fact that he has commented on wenger’s transfer policy albeit indirectly, will only assist matters. Its obvious to all the Arsenal fans that quality players like cesc and nasri won’t accept bargain basement mediocre players season after season as they know what the consequences will be…(weve had 6 seasons to know the process). Its becoming predictable and if wenger buys his usual “promising” or “untested” or “mediocre” crop of players i do not blame any arsenal player of quality ,(including RVP TV5 and jack) for wanting to leave.
Wenger needs to act fast and demonstrate that we are a BIG CLUB and like man utd liverpool etc we should have top quality players and be serious contenders for all competitions.

The thing that i don’t like about Nasri is that he seems incapable of accepting responsibility for the performances of the team. First we have Gallas challenging the players to show more commitment which causes him to sulk and then we have him saying that the team needs to make big-name signings. He could’ve ensured a trophy this year if he had continued to play up to his potential. I like the fact that this could force the board and manager to spend more but i honestly don’t think that he has a winning attitude so i wouldn’t be heartbroken to see him leave. As for going to United if he couldn’t deal with honest criticism from Gallas he’s got no chance of coping under Fergie.

I think Nasri’s demand of signing quality player was the right thing to do for him since the voice of gunner fans from around the world are in vain with AW. I fully supported him even with contract negotiation because player with such quality at other big clubs earn not just 900p/w, he is worthy of earning even more than 900 p/w
The first thing is Wenger must move quickly in the transfer market and sign quality players to show that he want the club to compete to the next level

Why not let him go! Or else he will be singing to us about Man U for several seasons to come…i think its immature to threaten to leave a team for under-performing while you are an integral part of the under-performance.

THAT STORY IN THE GAURDIAN DID NOT STATE ONE SOURCE SO DONT BELIEVE IT!! YOU GUYS ARE SO GULLABLE! All of you who slate arsene wenger like you do have absolutley NO real knowledge of the beautiful game. What wenger has acheived on the money he has spent could not be matched by anyone, is it any wonder real madrid wanted him over mourinho!? they know that arsenal play total football bettered only by barca! so if they gave him 100 million imagine what he could do. not only this Arsenal are financially sound, Man U and Barca are in a shit load of debt!!( plus money has only been available for 1 year from usmanov, and you cant blame wenger for having faith in a team capable of beating barca) Wenger to me looks like a man who has realised he has done what he can with the money he spends and wants to enjoy winning again and to silence the hateful english media. honestly i cant believe some of you so called fans, you accuse our players of not loving our club, but do you? I know wenger does, and despite is stubborn streak and his over faith on young players, he DOES NOT deserve the stick some of you spuds in desguise give him. LOVE GUNS

  • Gunee says:

Just shut d f***k up. “Wenger money this n that“ d fans n d players want trophies not money. Only Fab, Nasri, VP can‘t win trophy, so AW sign some good player wit these 3 guys and stop deceiving us “Old punpunka“

    • willybilly says:

@Gunee,really good solid argument there mate, you can barely even write a sentence, so maybe you should keep your pathetic opinions to your self

      • goonerbart says:

wiilybilly, you are the man. Agree totally with you about the boss. Unfortunately all too many so called Gooners are as stupid as Gunee, plastic johnny come latelys, glory hunters who probably know nothing about AFC before Wenger. Forget all the crap in the press at the moment so many made up stories, remember last summer over 150 names that we were supposedly after, its all bullsh*t, lazy hacks filling columns. Wenger will sign quality this summer, why? because he now knows he has too so we can move to the next level and when he does the rest of the prem will sh*t bricks. I am a cabbie and every footie fan i speak too realises just how close we now are, why cant some of you so called Gooners see that as well? When will you understand that the playing field is no longer level we cannot compete with the sugar daddy clubs, if we try we will go bust. SIMPLE

Nasri is right to certain degree, Wenger needs to get real talent so we can finally win things. I don’t agree with the fact that he is holding the club to ransom by asking for monry and and telling Wenger what to do although I do agree with him that Wenger needs to buy players. The fact is he doesn’t deserve a raise, he has had 3 good months this season and the rest has been rubbish, infact I think the 3 months was his form in his whole career at Arsenal, so on this evidence he doesn’t deserve a raise.

I personally don’t like what Nasri is doing and the fact if he were to go then so be it.

WE HAVE LOST MUCH BETTER PLAYERS THEN HIM.

  • Nick says:

Im afraid if Wenger doesnt dip into the market with success in finding established players that will fit the Arsenal mould, he runs the risk of losing fab and nasri as these world class players want trophies.. Theyre winners, Arsenals winners so something needs to be done to guarantee trophies at the emirates next season

  • Aussie Jack says:

Personally I don`t much care if Nasri stays or goes, there are many more fish in the sea. Money aside however I can appreciate him holding off signing until he`s convinced Arsenal are strong enough to challenge for silverware. Fabregas is already on the records for requesting just that.
