Would Defoe be welcomed at the Emirates if Wenger signs him this summer?

Last Sunday the Daily Star claimed that Arsene Wenger is lining up a shock summer move for out-of-favour Spurs striker Jermain Defoe for around £10m. However, would he be a welcomed signing at the club?

Defoe recently admitted his frustration at the lack of first-team opportunities at Spurs, fuelling speculation that he could possibly leave White Hart Lane during the summer window.

The 28-year-old forward told Sky Sports News in May:

‘I want to help the club achieve things, win trophies and get in the Champions League, but when you feel like you are working hard, training hard and being professional, and then for some reason you are not playing, it is difficult. It has been really, really hard to be honest. Players come and go, that is just football and it is out of my hands.’

The Daily Star suggested that Wenger has Defoe on his radar, and has pinpointed him as the man to help fire the Gunners to the title next season.

This makes Defoe the fourth striker to be linked with the club already this summer – Gervinho, Karim Benzema and Peter Odemwingie have also be named as potential replacements for the departing Nicklas Bendtner.

Personally, I really don’t know what to make of this rumour.

Would Defoe actually be a good signing, or another pointless one by Arsenal?

From what I can see on other links regarding this story, it works about 75% in favour of Defoe joining Arsenal, and I can see why.

Defoe is a proven goal scorer who can finish with both feet, as well as his head. The England international also possesses pace (which always bodes well as a striker) and works alongside other strikers relatively well. Personally, I think he could be a much better striker if he was places alongside Robin van Persie.

I think he is a decent player, the only problem is he is inconsistant. I personally think there are better options and I would look elsewhere.

Defoe is injury prone would spend more time on the
