Arsenal have reportedly won the race to sign Lille striker Gervinho for around £10 million, according to talkSPORT.

The Ivorian forward, who netted 15 goals in 33 appearances for Lille last season, stated his intention to leave the Ligue 1 champions this summer for the Premier League, and will apparently complete his move to the Emirates within the next few days.

Arsene Wenger managed to fend off competition from Liverpool and Newcastle for the player’s signature, as the Frenchman looks to rebuild his squad this summer.

Johan Djourou will certainly be happy to hear the news, after the Swiss defender acknowledged Gervinho’s ability. He recently stated:

‘I have followed a bit of the French league this season and I have to say Gervinho is a great player.’

‘I have known him for a long time and he is quick, with so much talent and good skills. He is a great, great talent and we need that because he can play as a striker, as a number 10 or on the wing. He has all the ingredients to play for Arsenal, that is a definite.’

To be honest, he is not a player that excites me a lot, but at least the manager is splashing the cash and acquiring new players to bolster our squad for next season’s campaign.

Let’s hope it continues.

you obviously didn;t see him play at all ast season then mate – I think he will be a really good addition to the squad. Quality player

I never said he was cack or anything, but from what I’ve seen of him he doesn’t really impress me. I hope, if we have signed of course, that he proves doubters like me wrong.

Agreed. He’s massively underated. I believe he has the potential to become a top premier league scorer. He was, after all voted player of the season by fans of his own club (which won French double).

He movement and style reminds me of Hleb and Kalou, but much more efficient and direct. This could be an interesting signing.

I agree and it would be nice to try the 442 formation like we did in the invincibles with van persie and gervinho upfront we should try to make him play like henry hes got the skill to work with and we already have enough wingers and hes to good not to start, he could be the person to come off at 75 minutes when chamakh can come on and make a little different.

Not seen him play at all but have seen him on YouTube and tbh he doesn’t impress me at all! If we get this guy it’s a bit disappointing considering we have been linked with the likes of benzema and falcao! Wenger please buy players to win the league not win 4th place! Samba, hazard and benzene are the players I wanted but I reckon we will finish with
Gervinho not anywhere near as goo as benzema.
No midfielder when I was hoping for hazard.
Scot dann instead of samba! Not as good again, we are getting weaker every year then we have to rebuild again and that’s why we are crap!

you have to be realistic mate. Benzema is playing under morinho at real. hazard is like the brightest young talent in the world, its not as simple as just saying we wanting him and giving money for him, there will be bidding wars which we cant handle. we have to lay foundations over a long period which i think we are doing. We aren’t in the same bargaining position we were a few years ago we have lost all our pull to get big players.

  • Gbangu says:

If u had follow 4 a long x u d ve seen what he posses. Hes attacking force than nasir or walcot. Dont worry he ll add some quality to the team. Good news now. Hope sakho, Hazard Falco n samba will follow. In arsene we trust.

  • IHAVEAGUN says:

Well atleast its a step up from B52…

  • Football Seer says:

I hope this would not stop Arsene from signing Falcao? I rate Falcao first, Benzema second and at a distant 5th Gervinho.
In any case Gevinho is still better than nothing and he should displace Walcot from the flank. We should sign Samba & Cahill, Sell Squilaci & Clichy. Move Vermalean either left back.

Whether Nasri leave or not we must sign Hazardous Hazard

I always love wenger, in time of transfer market. He always manage our money! This is welcome development. Up goooonah!!!

  • Olawole Ayodeji says:

Gervinho, is an impressive & versatile player.if it is 2tru, is a value added.gunners til thy kingdom come! Frm Solution.

  • i will not believe it until it is comfirm

  • Jon says:

Football Seer, if you truly rate Falcao above Benzema, you are deluded. We need an aerial threat and Benzema’s style is made for arsenal.

You people need to relax, Rvp will probably be out half the season (it kills me every time) so Gervinho will be a great back up. He also had 10 assists, let’s not forget that.
