It’s been six-years since Arsenal last lifted a trophy. Yet, Johan Djourou claims that Arsenal will go ‘trophy crazy’ when they finally end their quest for silverware, and insists that Arsene Wenger is still the man to lead the Gunners forward.
Despite missing out on England Under-21 international Phil Jones to Manchester United earlier in the week, Wenger is still determined to strengthen his squad for next season’s campaign – hopefully enough to avoid defeats in important games, like the one against Birmingham City at Wembley which sparked a cataclysmic collapse in all competitions last season.
However, the Swiss defender remains confident that once they end their trophy drought they will not stop adding to the collection. The 24-year-old centre-back recently stated:
‘You expect better for Arsenal, of course, but I think that when this long run ends it will just go crazy and we will win everything that is there because this club’s got so much potential.’
‘It has been six years but I am just waiting for the moment.’
He went on to say:
‘I wanted to win something so bad to say to those people ‘shh, that’s it, it is finished with and we have won something’, unfortunately I can’t say that now because it is not the case. But it is not even to say that people are wrong, it is for us to show that we are good enough because we know in ourselves that we are.
‘I think the way Arsene Wenger builds this team is the right way.’
But is Djourou’s prediction an accurate one, will Arsenal really go ‘trophy crazy’ once they capture their first one since 2005?
Well, in my opinion, if we are to go ‘trophy crazy’, as Djourou suggests, then we will need to add a few quality additions to the squad, players who know a thing or two about winning trophies and maintaining leads, as well as being able to stay cool under pressure.
Only then can we truly go ‘trophy crazy’.
