All talk and no substance – are we actually going to sign anyone?

This has so far been the most frustrating transfer window in my Arsenal supporting history.

If you believe all the stories, we have ‘been in talks with’ a long list of players in all positions from across the globe. If all these transfers actually went through this summer, then this is what our squad would contain next season:

Gigi Buffon, Seb Larsson, Chris Samba, Gary Cahill, Leighton Baines, Eden Hazard, Ricky Alvarez, Juan Mata, Gervihno, Samuel Eto’o, Karim Benzema

I know the line-up probably wouldn’t look like that, purely for the fact that I think Jack Wilshere and Robin van Persie would have something to say about it. However, it just goes to show how much rubbish is talked about in the media. But how many of them above would you take, and how many would actually make it at the Emirates?

One for the stat lovers: last season those 11 players mentioned above scored 116 goals, and some of them won 7 trophies – Arsenal also scored 116 goals using their entire squad last season and didn’t win anything.

Personally I would be happy to see Cahill, Mata and Benzema in a Gunners shirt next season, but I can only truly see one of them coming.

The Alvarez talk is a bit of a strange one for me. A few weeks ago I hadn’t even heard of him, but now he’s being touted as one of the best Argentinean midfielders in the world. Last season the midfielder scored 3 goals, made zero assists, and has yet to feature at international level. In his defence though, Alvarez is behind the likes of Tevez, Di Maria, Mascherano and Cambiasso, so he will have to work hard to get into the team.

I read yesterday that he’d tweeted that he would be letting everyone know this week where he would be moving to, but in reality he said there was no news and nothing was set in concrete – Just shows how much lazy BS ‘journalism’ is out there.

I believe we only need a strong centre-back, a backup defensive midfielder and another striker to come in this summer. If Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri do leave, then they will need replacing which is no easy task. Between them they racked up 24 goals and 21 assists last season (about 40% of all our goals).

Part of me likes that we are financially stable, but an ever increasing part of me wants us to stop quibbling about the odd million and just splash £60 million on 3 quality players.

I have no doubt that there will be plenty more rumours popping up in the upcoming weeks, let’s just hope we sign some players this summer so we can push on and end this trophy drought.

Who do you want to see come in this summer?

More importantly, who is likely to be lining up against Newcastle on the first day of the season?

Everyday we here about a different player being linked with Arsenal it wouldn’t surprise me if I read Diego Maradona was going to come out of retirement and sign for the Gunners. That is how ridiculous the rumours are. Are we actually going to sign any players of world class quality or will we end up with similar players to what we already have warming the bench or making up numbers?

  • I know arsenal have sign alvarez, cahill and samba wellcome. I like mata but i don’t see it happenin. Gerivinho might come. Let’s stop all this criticisim on our manager, am proud we have one of the finest manager in world football, yet here we are, criticizin him.
