A player who actually deserves a new deal at the Emirates

|

His loan spell at Bolton in the second half of the 2009/10 season certainly helped him get some valuable Premier League experience. His performances for Arsenal the following season were so impressive that he drew comparisons with Paul Gascoigne and Paul Scholes because of his all round midfield skills. He certainly impressed Fabio Capello as the England manager handed him his first senior international cap against Bulgaria on August 11th 2010.

However, no one quite expected that performance against Barcelona at The Emirates. It was the first time in the last two years that Barcelona’s midfield was outclassed (Mourinho’s Inter did not outclass them, his team were tight at the back and defended brilliantly) and Wilshere was at the heart of that win. He completed 93% of his passes and almost half of those came in the final third. It was the performance that announced his arrival at the big stage and the world took notice.

He was one of the few positives from a season that was disappointing to the core. If there is one area he has to develop, it is scoring goals and also the few issues with his temper. But, he is still young and will grow with age. He has scored some great goals whilst in the youth ranks, so it is possible that he will start scoring once Wenger feels he is ready for an attacking role. Wenger says he has fantastic penetration in his passing and so it is the slot behind the striker which he will likely occupy once his development is complete.

In the meantime Arsenal fans can rest assured that it won’t take long for Wilshere to accept this offer as he is an Arsenal man through and through, and will commit himself to the clubs cause.

The Arsenal board have made it a priority to ensure that the young midfielder more than anyone else recognises the platform they want to give him in the coming years. For he will be part of every success this club might achieve in the next decade or so.

It is because of his presence in the side that fans are not overly concerned about the imminent departure of Cesc Fabregas. For Fabregas’ heir is amongst our ranks in the name of Jack Wilshere (not Samir Nasri).
