With Arsenal announcing today their first signing of the summer, we here at Gunnersphere.com thought it only right to introduce you to him.

Here are 10 things you should know about Carl Jenkinson:

1. Carl Jenkinson is a 6’1″ 19-year-old right-back who until today played for Charlton Athletic.

2. Carl made 9 appearances for the Addicks since 2009.

3. He has previously represented England at international level, but switched his allegiance to Finland (the birth place of his mother).

4. Carl made his first appearance for Finland in the Under-19 Championship Qualifying Round against Poland on the 25th of October 2010.

5. Carl Jenkinson scored his first goal for Finland in their 6-2 win over Moldova in the UEFA Under-19 Championship Qualifying round. He has also featured as captain for the Under-19 side.

6. Although Carl is a natural right-back by trade, he can also play in the centre-back role.

7. Carl made his debut for Charlton against Brentford in the Football League Trophy Southern Section Semi-final clash on the 15th December 2010.

8. He has been wished the best by former manager Chris Powell who said: ‘I want to put on record how much I admire Carl as player and, more importantly, as a young man, I wish him well on behalf of all the staff and players, because it’s a dream move for him. If he grows into the right-back we all feel he could be, we could be talking about a player playing at the highest level for a long time.’

9. Carl knows what an opportunity he has been given, and thanked Charlton for accepting a bid from the Gunners, as well as developing him as a player: ‘I will always be in Charlton’s debt for the training they have given me since a young age. I’m grateful to the club’s Academy and all the coaching staff, so I’m delighted the two clubs have come to an agreement. I hope supporters will understand why I can’t turn down such an opportunity, but Charlton will always have a place in my heart.’

10. He signed for Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, and is believed to have put pen to paper on a four-year contract with the Gunners.

So, let’s have a look at the lad in action, and see exactly what we’ve signed:

I am so “yawn” excited. This is surely what Samir, Cesc, Theo are talking about, big name signnigs, not rookies to be vetted. Oh my looks like more of Arsene’s same old , same old

  • Mic says:

I think it is time for some pathetic fans like martyp to stop parading their ignorance. If carl were chicharito who is young and was bought cheap by man IOU,i bet these so called fans saying we don’t need kids, would be happy to ve him at arsenal cos they ve seen him play. Just let the manager do his job.

  • Elujoba ebun says:

He is good buy but arsenal dont need kid for now.

  • Bonanza says:

  • seagoon says:

Doesn’t look anything special to me but though predominantly right footed can cross with the left.
If he is a natural right back then why is always playing left back?

  • venky says:

He is signed for the future, all these youngsters’ [Toral,Bellerin, Jenkinson, Olsson and co] value would be realised once when the financial fair play kicks starts. We need spend big bucks then.
Don’t worry guys we are buying some experience this season for the present as well. I am on the Arsenal board, I vouch for that. Ha Ha just kiding

  • 49Unbeaten says:

Look we will always buy youth because we always need to bring players through, as does every club. We will make the big signings but any youngster won’t be considered “what’s needed”. Wenger will buy first team players also.

    amen to 49Unbeaten.
We needed a 2nd choice for Sagna as Eboue was not fitting the bill. I think this is a good start.
