Speed claims double standards as Wenger disapproves Ramsey captaincy

|

Last week Arsene Wenger stated that Aaron Ramsey’s appointment as Welsh Captain came far too early for the 20-year-old and citied pressure from his double leg break as the main reason for his statement.

However, Wales coach, Gary Speed, has hit back at the Gunners boss, claiming that the Frenchman did the exact same thing with Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal three years ago.

Wenger appointed Fabregas as club captain at the tender age of 21, but the Spaniard’s form has dipped sufficiently since. Gary Speed told the Daily Star:

‘When Arsene Wenger says something like that as a young manager you listen and take it on board. If Arsene says it I respect him totally but we didn’t just make Aaron captain for the England game – we made him captain for the future.’

‘I know Cesc Fabregas was a captain at a very early age at Arsenal and he probably made mistakes. Aaron will learn a lot as he goes on. I’ve not put any extra pressure on him. I just want him to go out and play. He is going to have quiet games and great games but the reason behind it was the future of the team and it was definitely the right decision.’

‘When we are in a position to compete in two years time then I think Aaron will benefit from the experience he is getting now.’

Gary Speed is right in saying that Wenger did the same thing with Fabregas, but Wenger has recently admitted to his mistake by putting too much pressure on Cesc in making him captain of Arsenal at such a young age.

Aaron Ramsey has been through a hell of a lot in the past 15 months, he certainly doesn’t need to be thinking about captaining his country so hastily after recovering from his horrible injury.

I have to side with Arsene on this one, Ramsey is far too young to be leading his country. He could do the job possibly in the future, but for now Ramsey just needs to focus on his football and regaining his sharpness.

i agree, wenger has learned something from his past mistakes.
ramsey is too young to be barking orders at seasoned pros, potentially great player that he is.

I do agree with Wenger to an extent, he is young to captain the Walsh team, but then again he could prove to be a great leader and to be honest it shouldn’t really effect his football.

I don’t agree that any player captaining a team can effect there football. The only reason Fabregas is playing bad is because he doesn’t want to play for Arsenal. END OF!!!

Garry Speed is a mug, Wenger is trying to tell him something. Do as I tell you not as I did
coz that is a mistake I dont want you to repeat, got it?
