Should Arsenal splash out £26M for this Porto star?

|

According to sources, Arsenal and Tottenham are looking to sign Porto goal-scoring sensation Radamel Falcao.

It is widely known that the 25-year-old has a £26 million release clause in his contract. However, should Arsenal splash the amount of cash stated to acquire the Colombian forward this summer?

Falcao has been with the Portuguese outfit for two seasons now, and has an impressive goal to game ratio, netting 73 in 85 appearances in all competitions for the newly crowned Europa League champions.

His goal-scoring form has also seen him beat Jürgen Klinsmann’s record of 15 goals in a single UEFA Cup/Europa League Campaign – 17 goals in 14 games.

His record truly speaks for itself, and I could potentially see a great partnership with Robin van Persie being formed at Arsenal.

However, for me, the question isn’t should Arsenal splash the cash on Falcao, it’s will they. I think you’ll find that realistically we need to spend this amount of money to bring in some quality players this summer. So, if the question is should Arsenal spend the money, then I would say yes without a doubt, the Gunners should take the plunge and buy out Falcao’s release clause before another club does.

Do I think Arsenal will spend £26 million on any player? Sadly, I just don’t see it happening. I hope I’m wrong and that Arsene Wenger has learnt from his past mistakes, and realises that we need to invest in some quality players.

Porto are obviously desperate to keep hold of their number one striker, as negotiations over a new contract are on going.

However, if either team submit the release clause fee of £26 million, then this means that the Portuguese club have to accept the offer and let the player discuss personal terms with the club that tabled the bid…hopefully, that club is Arsenal.

Here is a video of Falcao in action:

mate Wenger will spend that much only on someone like Benzema. I’ve seen him in action on a few occasions and has got that poacher’s instinct we miss. I just would like to know if he is as good as Benzema..

Yes, if we can afford it? By that i mean as long as we have budgeted enough to sort out the defensive deficiencies in the squad. As i see it we will go into the transfer window with just RVP, Chamakh and Walcott confirmed as our 1st team striking options. The youngsters like JET, Watt, Afobe, Sunu, Murphy, Freeman, Miyaichi and Silva, seem highly likely tO go on loan or play reserves again. However, there are question marks hanging over Arshavin, Bendtner, Nasri, Rosicky and Vela as to whether they will be in the first team picture or not. That is 5 players that may be sold, i would say if they all left we would probably raise £60m. However it would mean spending all that money on 3 or 4 replacements. 2 strikers and 2 wide players. I would like Nasri to stay but the other 4 can go, but that would mean us only raising around £30m and still needing one wide player and 2 strikers. It could be done if we went for one of Benzema, Falcao or Hazard and 2 of Wickham, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Downing, Young, Gervinho, Sow, Cisse, Damioa, C Cole, Defoe. However, I still have a sneaky feeling we may look to bring in Michael Owen on a free! as a replacement for Vela.

Looks like a very good player one that relies on his inteligence and movement to get goals. I dont think we should get him for 26 million maybe 10 or 12. We already have a similiar player to him in van persie and need a striker that can play off van persie that excels physically such as benzema. (also drogba just and example).

arsenal should spend may be more than 26m but not on one player! wenga should buy two defenders and one holding midfielder. Theo can do a great job upfront assisting VP

think we should be desperate to get him… unbelievable poacher, 39 in 41 this season, europa league stats are awesome, he has pace, guile, movement as good as vps, but probs a more van nistelrooy esque player, what a buy he could and hopefully will be….

i would love to see falcao at arsenal however i find it hard to believe that we are willing to spend such a large amount of money on a striker when for years we have needed serious money to be spent on our defence and nothing has happened.

the question im asking is, if this transfer does go through, where does it leave our transfer budget for the rest of the essential signings like a comanding CB or a proper winger like eden hazard that we need to stretch the defence instead of having central midfielders and central strikers thrown out to the wing like bendtner who moves like a bus.

we havent won the league since 2004 but the probem since then hasnt been scoring goals as we have consistently been in the top 3 for scoring goals in the league however we have been miles behind in the defensive department.

i feel that the majority of our transfer budget should be used in the defensive department althouh i would like to see a major signing of any sorts to excite us all for the new season.
