Could this Arsenal starlet be heading out of the Emirates?

|

Arsenal starlet Henri Lansbury could be sold during the summer transfer window if he does not agree a new contract extension by the start of next season, according to talkSPORT.

However, the 20-year-old will hold off contract talks until he knows whether he is part of Arsene Wenger’s first-team plans for next season’s campaign.

Lansbury, who impressed on loan at Norwich last season, has been told by Wenger that he does have the ability required to become a regular at the Emirates, but may find first-team opportunities hard to come by since the emergence of Jack Wilshere and the returning Aaron Ramsey back in the fray.

Although, recently, the North London club appear to be taking a stricter route with players who have just one-year left on their contracts, with Wenger insisting that they (most notably Nasri and Clichy) either sign or be sold during the summer.

While the young midfielder is eager to break into the Arsenal first-team, the England Under-21 international will make sure what his role at the club will be next season before committing his long-term future to the Gunners.

Since 2006, Lansbury has made just 6 appearances for the Gunners (5 of which were in the Carling Cup) netting one goal along the way.

Former Gunner Alan Smith believes he has ‘huge potential’, and I for one agree with him.

I have no doubt that Henri Lansbury could be a huge player for the club in years to come, and as you can tell I am a huge fan of the youngster, but I believe he must be more patient and develop his game a little further before even thinking about cementing a place in the Arsenal first-team.

I can definitely see Lansbury feature for Arsenal next season in the minor cup competitions and in the lesser Premier League fixtures. However, whether this is what he wants next season remains to be seen.

I for one hope he signs a new deal at the club and stays put, as I believe he has the potential and technical ability to become a big player for the Gunners in the near future.
