Samir Nasri’s agent insists midfielder is committed to Arsenal

|

Samir Nasri’s agent has dismissed rumours linking the Frenchman with a move to Italy this summer and insists talks with Arsenal are ongoing over an extension to his current deal, according to Sky Sports.

Although Nasri’s form has plummeted over the past couple of weeks, the 23-year-old has undoubtedly been one of Arsenal’s better players this season which rightly earned him a nomination for the PFA Player of the Year award.

The France international has become an intricate part of Arsene Wenger’s side since joining the North London club from Ligue 1 outfit Marseille in 2008 for approximately £12 million. However, the midfielder has only one year left on his current Arsenal deal which has led to a number of top European clubs, including Serie A outfits Juventus and Inter Milan, trying to prise him away from the Emirates this summer.

Wenger revealed last month that discussions regarding a new deal for Nasri were underway and remains optimistic that the Frenchman would commit his long-term future to Arsenal at the end of the season.

Nasri’s representative, Alain Migliaccio, now insists there is nothing for the North London club and its fans to worry about, and claims negotiations over a new deal are ongoing. Migliaccio was quoted in Italian publication, Calciomercato.it, saying:

‘The interest from Juventus and Inter Milan? There is nothing with them.’

‘There is no break with Arsenal, in fact, we start over negotiations for the extension of the contract which currently expires in 2012.’

This news will undoubtedly go down well with all the Arsenal fans (including myself). However, until a deal is actually finalised and is made official then the pessimistic feelings will no doubt remain in tact.

Let’s just hope these contract negotiations run smoothly and are dealt with swiftly and efficiently for every party concerned.
