Lady luck was not on Arsenal’s side claims Arshavin

|

Andrey Arshavin believes that Arsenal were destined not to win silverware this year, after watching his team fail at the business end of the season once again.

Arsenal were fighting on all four fronts up until late February before being cruelly beaten by Birmingham City in the Carling Cup at Wembley.

Arsenal’s season was a disaster from there on, with the Gunners also dropping out of both the F.A Cup and the UEFA Champions League. Wenger’s side saw their title hopes slip away shortly after that, only managing to win two Premier League games after February 27th. The North London clubs season was set to end in utter despair and unbearable disappointment yet again. Arshavin told Talksport.co.uk:

‘The season turned out to be difficult for Arsenal. The championship was difficult. At the end of the championship I had a feeling that no matter what we did and how hard we tried, everything was against us. We couldn’t win, we tried, but the season went its own way.’

The 29-year-old Russian, who is said to be on his way back to Zenit, is completely right in my opinion. Everything did seem to go against us after that fateful day at Wembley. However, we cannot blame luck for all of our disappointments; some blame has to rest on the players shoulders.

The boys tried their best, but unfortunately their best wasn’t good enough. They simply were not good enough to win silverware this season that’s it.

I believe that some of the players’ passion had died at some stages of the season, and that is heartbreaking for an Arsenal fan to witness.

If you play for Arsenal, you are expected to play with pride and to give your very all during every minute of the game, week in week out. I felt that at times the players didn’t do that, they lacked a fighting spirit, and the right mental attitude, and that is, in my opinion, the real reason why Arsenal’s once promising season ultimately ended in disappointment.

Lady luck wasn’t on our side, but the plain and simple truth is we were not good enough. In fact when we look at our Premiership record from March onwards, we have only managed to win 3 times, we drew 6 times and loss 3 times, that is not title winning form in fact that is more relegation form. We didn’t desrerve the title, we were lacking grit, passion and hunger. It’s strange because it seemed like the players had given up after the Carling Cup loss, which was ridiculous because we were still in three cup competitions. I guess it was the ripple affect.

that’s totally rubbish, better keep quite if you don’t have something to say Arshavin. Luck comes when you put 195% commitment on everything you do and you guys didn’t. it is not the first time to hear Arshavin saying something about the team though at some point seemed to be not interested playing for Arsenal. Luck is always on your side every week when you guys get your fat cheques? I’m tired of reading your nonsense explanation everytime when we don’t win. Arsenal will be a better place without you, Diaby, Squillaci, Clichy, Eboue, Song, Bendter I won’t mention other useless chaps.

I’m furious with all of you Arsenal players for wasting my fellow Gooners hard earned monies to watch you week in week out.

Arsene Wenger’s team has no objectives whatsoever.
