Is Ryo Miyaichi truly ready for Arsenal?

|

Arsene Wenger has recently stated that he will be assessing Ryo Miyaichi during pre-season, to see if he is able to make the step up to Arsenal’s first-team next season.

The 18-year-old winger was loaned out to Dutch side Feyenoord in January, after signing a long-term deal with the Gunners. The Japanese youngster impressed many during his time in Holland, bagging 4 assists and 3 goals in 12 appearances.

Wenger revealed yesterday that if everything goes to according to plan during pre-season, then the Frenchman will consider applying for a work permit for Miyaichi – which would allow him to play a part in Arsenal’s 2011/12 campaign. Wenger told the Daily Mail:

‘I have only heard positive reports about him. He will be with us in pre-season.’

‘I think he is good enough, but if he is ready enough to have a place in our team, we will ask for a work permit and try to get him in.’

‘What I like about Ryo is that he has good timing with his runs and understands when to go and where to go. That is something very important. He knows how to use his pace and he is an intelligent player.

‘He is a boy who went straight from school football to professional football and straight away was the best player in Feyenoord.’

‘He looks a very promising boy and everybody who went to watch him has been hugely impressed by him. Ryo is a character and a great football player.’

Ryo Miyaichi, labelled by the Dutch media as ‘Ryodinho’, has certainly made a name for himself at Feyenoord. However, there is a massive difference between the Eredivisie and the Premier League. He is still young at only 18, he certainly has potential and raw ability, but this can be said about many youngsters.

I believe Wenger should apply for a work permit for Miyaichi (if of course he is impressed by him during pre-season) and then loan him out to another Premier League club, such as Q.P.R or Bolton, in order for the winger to gain experience in the English game. This worked wonders with Jack Wilshere, who was arguably Arsenal’s most consistent player this season.

Arsenal need to invest in experience and talent this summer. We need to buy good players who have already reached their peak, and can play to the best of their ability from the word go.

Ryo Miyaichi is certainly one for the future, and he could yet play a part in next year’s campaign, but this shouldn’t stop Arsenal from investing in other forwards and wingers during the summer.

Is Miyaichi truly ready for Arsenal’s first-team?

You have hit the nail on the head. The kid has talent but has only paid 6 months of professional football in another league. He needs more experience and to be given time to grow.

Arsenal next season is going to be a very pressured place and not the environment for a very young kid from a country a long way away. He will need time to settle and time to mature. This won’t happen if Wenger sticks him straight into the first team.

The suspision here is that Wenger is going to use this as an excuse not to buy any wingers…..wait for it…!

tust me this guy lives off pressure, plus the dutch league is so physical, he could be ready for the first team but not starting line up

  • Hazza says:

I’ll be honest, I haven’t actually seen him play. However, if he impressed in Holland, there’s no harm in playing for Arsenal in the minor competitions

  • mohammed deda says:

Roy have had a good potential, but he is not fit for English leg. please Arsen wenger should not focus on him other than bring the top striker

  • Salim says:

Bring in to our team he can train with them daily and we will use him at CC and FA C, he will get more game here and same time get used with his team mate. We realy want him back if u know our starting line up:

        • afc says:

thts a poor line up fuk kroos sagna is one of the best in the league get baines n n samba n were sorted

  • Salim says:

Cesc is not Arsenal player any more, or u don’t believe? The is no way to keep him in team any more cause he say he wanna go, let him go. and if he play his perfomance is not near to 60% why we keep him?
We have problem at the back there fore I give the balance at the back and at the midle we will start with song and jack if we play 4 4 2 and in 4 3 3 we play jack, song, and nasri at the midle and ryo, theo and Robin infront.
Remember flimpong, ramsey, diara and hazard all they will available to give the team power if need it.

  • Hot says:

I think this player has potential, he has played in Holland but the Premiership is a whole different ball game. Wenger should either play him in a bit part roll for Arsenal next season or he should loan him out to a premiership club so he can adapt to the Premiership. I personally would loan him out.

  • Goonerbeall says:

Who are these morons above? Talking about Cesc? Samba and Nassri in our lineup? Where have these come from? Talking rubbish on our MB? Tell them to be careful now that our team is slowly coming back from the dead. We dont want to hear any nonsense.
